I honestly never knew that was a rule. You always find out about these things during the game and man great coaching by Westhoff on that one & great mental play by Washington. Leon Washington deserves to reamain on this team. Resign his contract for 6 years please. Jets legend in the making :bills_suck::jets:
I play in a flag football league and knew about that rule on a kick-off to our team. unfortunately, the refs did not and we wound up keeping the ball at the spot the return man touched it while standing out of bounds. That sucked. I hope they were watching today.
I swear a similar thing happened to us this season. It could have been another game I was watching but I thought it was a jets game. That said it was a great play by Leon.
Kickoff bounced around a little, angled towards the sidelines. Mike Westhoff yells at Leon to get out of bounds. He stands with one foot out of bounds, reaches out, and grabs the ball inbounds.
I never knew that rule. So basically if the ball is near the out of bounds line and u cab stick ur foot out, grab the ball and it will be a flag on the other team? Sounds too easy
When we drafted Leon Washington with our 1st pick of the 4th round... I went insane because I watched this guy rush for the ACC Player of the year with my Noles... He's a playmaker and you know what? Mangini and the coaching staff is using the man the right way... We have Thomas Jones to pound that rock and Leon Washington needs the ball in the open field, our coaching staff has been doing a pretty solid job with that. I just cant get over the fact that we landed Leon in the 4th round, if not for his injury the year after his ACC player of the year award...He would have been a top 15 pick, hands down.
Last time i saw that happen was Chad Morton after he left Jets and went to the Skins. No doubt Westhoff taught that to Morton, along with Leon.
It's already happened with the Jets this year, I just cant remember if it were a Jets player or an opposing player...Something is telling me that it was Leon Washington, I may be wrong though...But I know I've seen that call already this year while watching a Jets game.
Thats because he got hurt the following year after he won the acc player of the year award... Try correcting me all you want, but the bottom line is this... You dont play for FSU, win the ACC PLayer of the year award...And get drafted after the 1st round...It just doesn't happen.
I knew about the rule and when I saw him stretching to keep out of bounds I knew exactly what he was doing but it didn't appear the refs knew about the rule. I about blew a gasket yelling at the TV until they threw the flag.
