At the beginning of the 2012 season, I asked the question: "Is this a rebuilding year?". I wasn't so sure myself what this season would bring, but the question was one year early, because next season truly looks like it will be a rebuilding year. We might see Revis or Cromartie traded for draft picks. It wouldn't surprise me. The Jets are overloaded at that position and weak in MANY other positions, so they need a lot of draft picks.
It should be, but knowing Woody and his ignorance about building a football team, it probably won't be. I think we're going to see another attempt at reloading especially with the Super Bowl in our stadium next year and the fact that he seems a lot more driven to sell PSLs than field a winner. I don't know what it would take for him to blow it up like he should and build from the core on out rather than trying to sign stars and let the depth suffer, but I think we've got at least one more year.
I was optimistic about this year , but never felt we did enough in proper time to "Build our team". 2013 will probably be just like this year ; Not many deals or surprises and the feeling we are just trying to get healthy. Where any veterans depart or are shown the door , some re-tread or just about through with their career player will fill the gap left in their wake. We are always trying win it all every year! Why would this year be any different.
No. You need an OC, and a healthy Holmes,Hill,Kerly, Edwards, and White. If Tanny manages the cap, You also get Revis back, and probably one of Landry or Bell.
Woody isn't going to purge this year. Not with the SB being in our stadium. 2014 will be where changes happen. Especially if the giants or patriots win it all
Rebuilding means different these days. It is possible to rebuild and win at the same time. Its very rare but look at Indy... All it took was some 'Luck'. I don't think we need to rebuild next year. I think we have to just 'build' the offense because honestly there isn't much in the Offense worth saving.
Woody will never purge a season Super Bowl in our stadium or not. Woody will get the pieces to try to win it year after year... Or at least generate the buzz and hype to make it appear so. I don't know if Woody will fire anyone on New Years Eve but I think by Wednesday you'll hear that Woody is looking for the next GM. The new GM will decide the fate of Rex (most likely getting another shot).
In this age, everything can be rebuilt in an offseason. If the front office makes the right moves, we can be a 10 win team next year. Super Bowls in our building, definately going to see a big name signed. It might be Chris Johnson, Steve Jackson, even Vick. We need a competitive offense, period. If we can get that we will be back in the mix.
Makes me sick, but im getting the feeling they will try to bring Vick in, and just keep their fingers crossed that he can have a good season.
You don't build a team through free agency. Many of you dont get that... That is what go us here in the first place- poor drafting and trying to put together a team by overpaying FA.
Well I agree, but with the Super Bowl in our building, I get the feeling we are going all in again in 2013. I said it all last offseason, that is why we didnt sign much free agents at all, the cap gets carried over so we can spend more this offseason.
It will be a rebuilding year, mostly b/c, IMO, we will most likely be drafting our franchise Qb in 2014.
The Jets are going to try to "reload" and not "rebuild". Rebuilding will take them out of the SB @ home possibility while reloading gives them a WC shot.
Rex cannot be trusted to manage the whole team. He must change the loyalty flaw and work in all 3 phases or be fired.
I just can't see the Jets or the Giants blowing up their teams with a home SB just around the corner. Talk about headlines????? Blowing up a team puts Woody on a 3-5 yr road map, and Woody ain't interested in no stinking road map, not this year. My gut says Woody will stick with his current team, Tanny, Rex, and Sanchez included. He may kick Sparano to the curb if he can yoink Norv Turner, but beyond that I think Woody will dance with the devil one more year. Of course Tanny will try to bring in a game manager at QB, but Sanchez will win out in pre season. With Revis and Santonio coming back from injury, plus Keller and Landry getting resigned (maybe), plus with Greene and Powell starting to make some noise, I can see Woody talking himself into giving it one more year. Get some O-line help, get Norv, get a game manager under center, and give it a whirl. Woody will go whichever way he has to to watch 'his' Jets in the SB from his private suite in just over 12 months from now.
2011 and 2012 were rebuilding years also after the purge of expensive vets after 2010. The Jets just failed to use those years to rebuild. If 2013 is a rebuilding year in which the Jets actually rebuild we might be getting somewhere.
Guys like Luck don't fall on your lap too often. If the Colts didn't have Luck, they'd be a bottom feeder this year. I don't know that it will be a "rebuilding" year in terms of tearing it all apart and putting in lots of stop gap players. However, I think it's going to be that kind of year. The Jets should focus on building up the offense (OL, WR, RB) this year and then go after a QB next year when they have more offensive pieces for a rookie QB to walk into a good situation rather than this mess.
The schedule next year is brutal. Combine that with all the cap space tied to sanchez and holmes, this team will not make the playoffs unless there are miraculous moves made by the new GM. The Jets need to find a QB they like in the next few drafts, and position themselves to get that QB; whether it be by trade or tanking.
I think the 2011 bengals are a team the jets should to emulate if their going I rebuild. 2010 they went 4-12. Carson Palmer quit on the team, they let ochocinco and Terrell Owens leave. Drafted aj green and Andy dalton turned out to be decent. They were expected to be the worst team in the NFL last year and ended up making the playoffs and have a bright future.
