If Vince Young is available we have to take him. I don't think Chad is going to re-structure. There is a chance our O-line is going to lose at the least two starters. Going by just last year our aging runner back isn't getting any younger. Vince Young is like getting two players with one pick. He runs just as good as Vick and throws albeit un-orthodox just as good as McNabb. Young would stand half a chance to survive behind our O-line with his running ability and that would hopefully help out our wide-receivers, which would have a chance to get down field with a QB that has the arm to get it to them. Having Young also helps Martin and Houston get longer runs with the opposing teams having to use a linebacker or safety spy on Young. If Young is available we have to take a chance on him!!!
He is THE guy I want too. There was a time, not too long ago, when all the talk on the board was taking Brick but I haven't seen his name even brought up in quite some time. Which is fine with me. However, I can't imagine even those who supported the Brick pick griping one bit if we were somehow fortunate enough to have Vince land in our laps at 4.
I think D'brick's name has disappeared because the situation has changed. AS the chances for Penny's successful return become dimmer and dimmer, we need to get a QB. I was a big fan of taking D'Brick at #4. Now, I'm thinking Cutler may be our best bet.
IF any of the the big three fall to us, meaning Bush, Leinart or Young, I would hope the Jets take them over anyone else in the draft.
I would love Vince Young too, but I am worried about how long it will take him to learn a NFL style offense. Keep in mind this guy played in the shotgun basically every play. Right now I would love Jay Cutler or Vince Young.
I don't like Young. I would take Cutler over Young any day of the week. The man runs way too much. He runs more than he throws the ball, and he's a quaterback. He wants to go run so much make him a RB.
People have been suspecting the Titans might wind up taking Brick at 3, but I just don't see it happening. Young is the perfect fit for them. If the top three are gone you might very well see the Jets take Jay Cutler at 4. Would I rather move down and take him? Yes, but when you are planning on taking a QB of the future...YOU GO GET HIM...you don't move down and hope that your future falls...If the Jets fall in love with Cutler at the scouting combine...He will be the choice at #4.
Well that is part of his game...and a good game at that. Guys like Donovan McNabb entered the NFL as scramblers, but in a few years he became a pocket passer. I see that happening with Vince. He has all the tools to become a complete QB. In that Championship game against USC I was suprised at hot accurate Vince was. He was hitting guys in stride and on the numbers all day in that game. Very impressive. Now after saying all of that...The Titans are in a sticky situation with McNair at the moment...and even if they resolve it...I still see them taking Young at 3. I like Cutler too man, but Vince is pretty damn good too.
YOUNG = BUST If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times. Everytime I see Vince Young's name mentioned, I cringe in fear. This guy has HUGE bust written all over him. Now before the sharks come out to feed, hear me out... #1 - Right now everyone loves Vince Young because he is the flavor of the moment. All people see is his great performance in the Rose Bowl and go goo-goo eyed over him thinking about him as the next Jets QB. #2 - Vince Young is a great athelete. However, everyone playing in the NFL is a great athelete. His ATHELETIC dominance over USC will not be possible in the NFL. The players are bigger, faster and quicker in the NFL, so he won't be able to do what you think he will do. #3 - Vince Young's skill set doesn't translate well to the NFL. The offensive system he ran at Texas was a junk-college ball offense. It was designed to take advantage of his huge atheletic ability over college defenses. He will not be able to run that type of offense in the NFL without getting killed. #4 - Vince Young's sidearm throwing motion will make him a liability in the passing game. Everyone here complained about Pennington's lack of arm strength. Anyone see Vince Young throw the ball further than 20 yards in the Rose Bowl??? Not if you saw the same game I did. I know, I know, everyone squawks about Bernie Kosar...Bernie was the exception due to his great accuracy...but can you name any current NFL QB with such a funky throwing motion? #5 - Vince Young has NO experience running an NFL style offense. He posted big numbers in that junk-college ball offense. However everything he did came from the shotgun...never took a 3-5-7 step drop in his career. Additionally, he NEVER read a defense in college. He looked to his first option...passed if he was open or pulled it down and ran if he wasn't. Ummmm, that ain't gonna work in the NFL. You can "wish" for whatever you want, but you don't spend that high a pick on a QB that won't have an impact for a minimum of 3-4 years. With the Jets salcap situation and multiple holes, I doubt they stay at #4 anyway. IF Young is there at #4, they BETTER trade down. This guy is a coach killer...
I'm actually starting to like the option of taking Young, since cutting Chad becomes the likely option more and more everyday. I'm not sold that he could be a superstar QB but if he and Cutler were on the board at 4 we need to take Young. Cutler has proven absolutely nothing to me and he just isn't the scary QB you want leading your franchise... I think he could become a good NFL starter but he'll never be the all-pro that Vince Young could become. Let's hope that Young's refusal to throw at the combine knocks his draft stock down a little and he's there at #4.
Yes. He proved his worth all season and in the Rose Bowl... I liked him as the Heisman winner last season because his numbers were better then Reggie Bush's (look it up). Bring him in for a workout and make him throw then.
If he is there we have to take him, in fact if we have the big 3 we have to take them, I hate the idea of Cutler with the 4th pick, he isn't worth it there, we must trade down, anyway QBs are useless without an oline and with what it looks like Mawae being gone, we need as many quality picks possible, and a QB at the 4th spot would kill our cap even more if Chad is cut, along with the fact that we might have to get a vet anyway, just hate the idea of Cutler at 4.
There's the 2nd round for that. D'Brick is a poor fit with us and would be the only reasonable option at 4. McNeill or Gilles in the 2nd round.
If Vine is there you have to take him. He is a better Vick. And though vick may be a below average QB he can win by himself- that much is true. He can throw, run, and even catch. He can help move the ball in many different ways. If used in the right way- which the Jets have a history of using players wrong- he can excell into the most dangerous player in the NFL.
Young was throwing on ESPN about 10 minutes ago in a competition. Olson was the best passer by far, hitting moving targets. Young edged Croyle for second, and Whitehurst didn't do well.
