Apologize up front for my rant I'm so tired of stressing over my beloved Jets. Every single season I refresh my positive outlook and fantasize that the Jets are on the road to recovery. Not making the playoffs mind you, but playing like a team with promise, with potential, with the feeling that soon, in a year, may be two they will explode into a dynasty team we all dream off. Call it bad Karma, or inadequate leadership, or poor ownership, but there got to be a radical problem, a common thread, that forces a team and its fans to so many years of collective suffering . Something separates great teams from contenders and even more so from pretenders. We have been pretenders mostly and on/off contenders occasionally. I want better. Deep down inside I have always known it, often carrying that painful feeling in my gut but dismissed it as been unlucky, or accepting the weak excuse of being one play or one penalty away from ALMOST getting there. Shit, have I been in total denial for that long, since Vinnie and the Jets against the Broncos in that heart braking playoff game? or the horrible loss to Miami in 1983? I guess so, but the game against the Titans brought me back to earth. Finally. Earth to me, hear this. Why the hell are you stressing you fool? It really doesn't matter how good your D is, or your special teams, or your running back and WR, or your offensive line. All of those aforementioned positions are important no doubt. But if you don't have that diamond, that sparkplug, that Superstar QB that LEADS AND carries the team in his shoulders ,wins the big games and makes every one better around him you will always be whistling Dizzies if you hope for a SB. So now I regroup and ask myself, where the hell are we in that department? We gambled and failed with Sanchez apparently? is Geno the guy? How and when will we know? Should we at some point go and play Simms to see what we have? Is this season nothing more than wait and see with Geno and if he fails go big on the draft with a QB? Great, that means more time and luck. Fuck it all, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED...LUCK as in Andrew Luck, or someone like him. You can see what the kid can do and why he will be the superstar of the future right away. No fuzz. Meantime must we continue to be pretenders or may be contenders? I guess so, till Geno either surprises us or we start from ground zero again. God forbid the later, albeit likely, NO please NO, I can't take another few years of middle of the road seasons while we find our Star. May be, just maybe there is a reason why Jet fans are so impatient these days....We are tired of waiting and stressing. We deserve better that average. We are beginning to doubt we will find it in our lifetime. Hope Geno is the answer for our old and tired sake, patience is running short even for a sunshiner like me. We need the QB that will make us forget everything else, and bring hope to this team. Sooner than later.
reality is that it really doesnt matter. we shouldnt stress, we need not stress. nothing in any of our lives will change for the positive or negative based upon anything the jets do. i thought that was where you were going. i kinda wish you had gone there.
so, it sux we haven't had any sustained success, have come up short, had a few heartbreaks and are in need of a franchise qb. we should hope geno is it or else we will have to wait longer. does that about sum it up? thank for this, thread very informative
Did ya hear about the Jets fan with the little dick? He's from Brooklyn. So am I. But that's where the similarity ends.
Yes we do need better play at the QB position. But we need the coaching staff to put the QB into a position of success. I haven't been this optimistic about our coaching since Parcells took over. The only tingle I got was when Hermy hired Heimerdinger...and we all know how that went. Rex is a leader of men. MM has had a top 10 offense for 12 out of 15 years or something. Now its about finding the QB to plug into the system that MM brings and finding the right RB. Is Geno the answer? Simms? A rehabbed Sanchez (doubtful)? Will it be Maziel? Bridgewater? One of the other QBs? No idea. The hope is that it's Geno. He's got some skills and poise and hopefully everything else will fall into place. Right now the Jets stock is pointing in the right direction. Idz was part of a great turn around in Seattle. Hopefully he will be part of the same here. Rex is a top 3, if not THE, defensive mind in the game right now and has a great staff on the D with Thurman and Dunbar. He has also delegated the offense to a competent coach with a long proven track record instead of someone who beat him one time or the son of a coaching legend he was forced to take on. I'm very optimistic about this team's future with one caveat - continuity. Firing Rex will set us back 5 more years and a "wash, rinse, repeat" cycle of rebuilding. If WoodyJ can run this team without worrying about what the media and fan base thinks and he keeps the CS intact, and we are in for a good ride the next 5 years.
Indeed. You took it to a much higher level. In the bigger scheme of life we need not stress, this is just a game that should not and must not impact our lives. Great point
Don't worry. You should only be concerned if you have nothing else in life. Shit! (turns off computer.)
Step back from the ledge and give Geno a break. Four games in he has turned the ball over less than the great Eli Manning this year.
Too bad Archie didn't have a fourth son, so far any Manning is golden. And don't mention how Eli is doing right this moment in your response, I would let any QB shit the bed once in a while if he had won us two SB rings.
Cubs fans have waited over a century. It took nearly that long for the Red Sox. The White Sox went a long time. It was over 50 years of waiting for the NY Rangers. It's been almost as long for the Knicks as the Jets. It's been longer or about as long with the Jets as it has been for the Cardinals (NFL), Indians, Browns, Lions, Sabres, Capitals, Clippers, Maple Leafs, Bills, Vikings, Chargers, Chiefs, Falcons, Cavaliers, Hawks, Blues, Dolphins, Nets, Astros, Texas Rangers, Bengals, Eagles, Trail Blazers, Jazz and perhaps others. Not to mention the Mets will likely hit 30 years before winning another championship. There is no explanation. It's not bad karma. Ownership, GMs, coaches and players all turnover for all franchises. No need to stress. Each week they will either win or lose. The QB they select will either play well or he won't. The misery comes from having no control over what occurs. There are likely 10,00 registered posters on this site that believe they have the right answers. We don't. We are not alone in this as reflected in the long list of franchises listed above and I don't imagine the pain being any worse for Jet fans. I decided years ago to sit back and enjoy the team for what it is. Of course the losses are aggravating and stressful. But I won't let that affect me beyond Sunday afternoon. I also will always be a fan and support whomever is in charge, whomever is coaching and whomever is taking snaps that day. I will spin things in a positive manner when possible but also criticize where I see fit. I won't allow myself to get so angry that the Jets influence my life beyond football. I get accused of wearing green colored glasses. I don't. I look forward to every game every Sunday and then to the day when the Jets win a Super Bowl. All we can do is have faith the day will come.
This board is so bipolar. Geno is a rookie, Brees and Peyton had similar starts to their rookie seasons. Once Rex drafts some offense we'll be fine.
Didnt they just cut the QB in Tampa, Hell I think Geno is doing a decent job considering he is a rookie, I am on the fence with him, Part of me sees a young kid who hangs in the pocket and takes a hit and throws a deep pass, A QB who steps up in the pocket and knows he is going to get hit but does it anyway. Then I see the turnovers and the ball control. I know the later of the two can be corrected but how fast and how long will that take. I know its only 4 games but I need to see improvement in those areas fast.
These days? It's been four weeks. You call that patience? Take a step back, realize it's just a game, and have some fun. This isn't life or death.
