I might be all wet but can't remember the last time a pre-season game had so much importance and potentially set the tone not just for this season but for the future of the NYJ organization.

Saturday can not come soon enough. For once critical starting positions are at stake and our eyes will be glued to the TV hoping for answers.

Much has been said about the QB battle/competition/evaluation or whatever we want to call it. But going into game 3 of pre season we still remain with more questions than answers.

I think we are united on the WHAT - We want the Jets to win first and foremost, and we all want the best personnel to achieve that goal. But we could not be more divided on the WHO - and thus the anxiety about the expected outcome of tomorrow's game.

Can we go on thinking than Sanchez once and for all will avoid those costly rookie errors? That's a thought pill to swallow right now.
Or can Geno show us enough to make us pull the plug? Is he even ready?

And beyond the QB selection what about the many more that are competing, yes, straight out competing for a position and for a job. This is the time for our young talent to really shine. Some might not even make the final pre season game.

Can we nail down our WR corps? Will young folks like Spadola make the cut? Do we have a hidden gem or two?

I'm sure more questions will remain after this game, as is often the case, and injuries can change the best of plans, but perhaps the most important question of all might be answered. Who will lead the Jets in the huddle this year? If that is the case this pre season game is sure worth watching.

I hear you! Can't wait until tomorrow, it almost feels like the regular season.

I hope everyone makes it out healthy and everyone plays together as a team and puts some points on the board.

I'm with you. Right around Monday I realized I was all jacked up for a preseason game. Then I remembered that it was only Monday and it's been a long week since then.

just watched the pats/lions game on NFL preseason thingy.

    I can say this:

If Sanchez OR Geno plays as bad as Tom Brady and the starting NE offense played, it's over.

Of course there's a lot on the line between Sanchez and Geno (who's getting the start) and I hope for both of Sanchez and Geno to play lights out but at the end of the night it's a team game. If the offensive line doesn't run block for our HB's and pass protect for our QB's, if our WR's and TE's don't run crisp routes nor fight for the ball etc. then regardless of who's under center our QB's will look bad with end results.

I'd like to see us put up the same type of performance against the Giants as we did the Jags. Which was dominate the game. The score of 37-13 doesn't impress me being only the preseason but I did enjoy and/or like the fact how we threw for more passing yards (232 to 188), had more rushing yards (176 to 98), picked up more first downs (24 to 15), won the time of possession battle (35:37 to 24:23), had fewer penalties (4 compared to 12) and also won the turnover battle (3 to 1).

Do I expect us to dominate the Giants as we did the Jags? Not a chance. Although a strong showing against these Giants would have me pretty amped heading into the regular season. We'll be without Quinton Coples so if we can still generate a strong pass rush? I'll be thrilled with that aspect of the game. A

And I can't wait to see Geno Smith under a pass rushing frenzy type of Giants defensive line. Should be a great challenge for Geno to try an overcome. If he craps the bed with happy feet and bad decisions, well then he's not ready. But if he competes with heart and production? Then we'll be able to say that we have a very experienced backup in Mark Sanchez moving forward.

You guys are making too much of this. All that is going to be determined is who starts game 1. Its not set in stone that the QB who opens the season as the starter will finish as the starter.

lol feels like a regular season game? hell no.

It'll be interesting to see how Geno fairs. I'll be at the game with my uncle's Giants season tix proudly wearing my green.

Most important thing...no injuries for us. We need to get out of this pre season with nothing else. The Coples thing doesn't seem all that bad. And Holmes will be back ahead of schedule

On the flip side. Would love to lay some hot sauce on the Giants. Fucking want to break Cruz's leg. Smash Eli's face

Making too much of our QB battle? Maybe, just maybe, you're the fan who doesn't understand the importance of opening day starter. Here's a triva question for you. Dating back to 1990, what's the percentage of opening day starters in which ended up starting come week 17? A clue? A whole lot highter than backups.

To a certain extant, I respectfully disagree with you my Jet-brethren. This particular PRE-SEASON game is EXTREMELY important as it affords Jet mgmt, coaching staff & us fans the oppt'y to determine if Gee has the necessary skills & leadership ability to start - not just Gm-1 but -for the remainder of the season.
For this to happen, Gee-Wiz MUST put forth a "platinum performance" vs the gi-ANTS as well as producing numbers like "16-17+" pass comps/atts during 11-on-11 drills for the remainder of training camp. He does this; he's got the job. If not, Mark "The Marsupial Mistake" is the starter for gm's 1, 2,3, & so on or until he commits his 1st multiple, hambone-brained miscues in any 1 game.
I like Mark. I want Mark to do well......but......!

Well said, Our OL begs watching in some depth. As for Geno, composure and quick decision making. I'm silently hoping Spadola shines enough to gain a spot.
I know many feel I'm making too much of this game, but I strongly feel the stakes are much higher than normal

Who cares it's still preseason? You won't see the real offense or defense so it is just another meaningless game unless somebody gets hurt as pointed out above.

I'm excited. We are going to see the QB we drafted and get our first real look at him. People are obviously going to call him the next Montana or JaMarcus after one preseason game which would be ridiculous, but we get a look at player we haven't gotten a look at yet.

I humbly agree with the O.P. on this....

I am keeping in mind that this is the preseason, still, but it's been a long time since I can remember any one preseason game with so much riding on it across the board.

I find it hilarious that some of you people are still rolling with the pre-new-collective bargaining agreement mentality. These preseason games are gold!! The coaching staff has half as many OTA's, half as many practices...hell half as many EVERYTHING, except games, to evaluate these players. Do some of you NOT get that?

Thanks to Geno's injury this has tossed a very large wrench into the works. I'm absolutely certain, even if some of you are not, that Geno knows tonight is his whole season on the line. CAN he show enough to get the starting nod game 1? Can he show enough to get a starting nod at ANY time this season. Let me tell you...it makes a difference. I see all these different threads about "fire Rex Ryan" or "Rex Ryan rides Sanchez's jock" etc...etc... Let me be perfectly clear, Rex Ryan will play whomever gives him the best shot to win. And, unless Gee Smith CLEARLY looks like he can handle things he starts this season riding the pine because it doesn't matter who's under center Ryan is fighting for his job this year...we know it, he knows it and the players know it.

Last year, if you go back and watch, Russell Wilson was CLEARLY better than anything they had in Seattle. The same cannot be said of Geno Smith...at this time. We're going to find out a whole lot about this young man's character over the next bunch of days/week or so. No sir, this is about as important a game as it can be without it being regular season.

It is preseason, but this game is going to determine our starting QB, our WR rotation, our O-Line, who starts at RB, and a lot of defensive issues.
