Are we better fit to run a 4-3 now?

Now that Barr backed out and we have Mosley, we have 3 ilbs and no edge players..

What do you think is better?

    4-3
    Williamson/Mosley/Lee
    Jenkins/Anderson/Leo/Draft pick

    3-4
    Williamson/Mosley
    Jenkins/Anderson/McLendon/Leo/Draft pick

I could be wrong but wouldn't be surprised if we resigned Mclendon at some point at about 2 million or so. Fits the 3-4 and seemed to like it here and was a team leader. Maybe he's weighing his options of other offers, retirement etc and the Jets probably haven't reached out yet knowing they have to take care of other areas.

I think we all get caught up on the term "base" D. That might mean we run it 40% of the time, mixed with other formations. Situation and opponent will dictate, but there will be a lot of 4-3 run this year.

With the contract that Anderson just signed, I’d be expecting more 3-4 looks than the alternative.

The 3-4 looks better, but I'm not going to put too much stock in base D

I dont care how they line up as long as the attack the QB

people over rate this 4-3/3-4 thing way to much. That being said right now with Mosley, Williamson and Lee.are all starting in a 4-3. Mosley and Willamson will be starting in the 3-4. Nickel would prob be mosely and lee.

Depends on who we draft. Bosa and Williams might be two guys who benefit from a 4-3, but since we resigned Anderson I think we mostly run with a 3-4 base.

Part of me wonders if they will start shopping Williamson. I think they are more likely to start Mosley / Lee on the inside, while Williamson is the odd man out. They could move Lee to the outside for some situations as well.

With the defensive line they have Williams / Shepard / Anderson. They will likely need to add a guy, at least until Shepard shows he is ready.

considering we only have 4 d-lineman on the roster, 2 of which are mid round picks who barely played and going into year 2 and the other 2 who would be better suited as DTs in the 4-3 i'd have to say no. in the 4-3 we would have too many Lbers and not enough lineman and no real DEs either

Thank you. I feel like I (and others) have been saying this every off season for a decade, but it just keeps coming back....

Packages change regularly from snap to snap and series to series. In truth, it all depends on who we draft and sign or trade for going forward. I expect to see Leonard Williams, Derron Lee, CJ Mosley, and Avery Williamson out there for the majority of snaps. Probably a 4-3 is most likely, where we are regularly subbing Henry Anderson in for whover is playing Nose Tackle. My guess is they wanted Barr to play a weakside DE who could drop into coverage well and be able to mix it up, so we’ll see if they try to replace him at that position or go for a different type of player. They will most likely bring someone to play some NT so McLendon wouldn’t be a surprise return.

I think the base is 3-4. Mosley really isn't a 4-3 MLB. He doesn't have sideline-to-sideline speed. I don't think that the Jets would have signed Mosley or re-signed Henry Anderson if they were moving back to a 4-3 base. Both are clearly 3-4 players, not 4-3.

Mosely definitely has sideline to sideline speed. IMO

I would argue Mosley could play any scheme, he is that good.

Base defenses are run around 40% of the time at most in the NFL now days. Quit worrying so much about it. Flexibility in scheme is as big for defensive players as anything now days.

Ok thanks. I hadn't seen him play that much recently, but in an article or two that I read the analyst/author made that claim about Mosley and that he was only a fit for a 3-4 D. I stand corrected.

I would say if we sign Bosa we would be better suited for 4/3, If we sign Allen we are best suited for 3/4.
