NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders fully anticipate slapping the franchise tag on CB Nnamdi Asomugha again this offseason.
Those selfish Raiders. Asomugha, who's been targeted by offenses on only about 10 plays this year, will make roughly $11.7 million in 2009 if he's franchised again. The Raiders ought to shop him. Asomugha turns 28 before next season and Oakland needs all the draft slots it can get. They are down second-, third-, and fifth-round draft picks due to awful previous trades.

The franchise tag is bullshit why is the NFL the only league to do anything like this all is it does it juts limit deserving players from going to wherever team they'd like.Especially when u know the player will never sign a long term deal or the team never intends to sign a long term deal.

Yeah, you have to feel bad for the guy...but to his credit he keeps his head down and just keeps playing.

he will get the largest contract for a CB ever if he is traded.

Its slightly win-win for him because he either get paid the average of the top 5 salaries for a year to play with an awful team. Or he will get traded and be the highest paid CB for a winning team.

Whoever gets him is getting an amazing talent. Can you imagine having him lined up with Revis and having Lowery at FS?

Can't we just give him Favre's money?

    A Ratliff/Clemens offense could manage about 14ppg, and I don't think we'd need much more :D

Now I'm confused on how exactly that's even remotely win-win. That seems like lose-win all the way to me.

Not paid as much and on a bad team or paid more and on a good team?

I think Nnamdi would probably cost a 1st, 2nd and 4th if the jets traded for him next year i would have no problem with that this defense would easily become one of the best, if not the best in the league.

I don't feel fora guy making almost 12 mill to play a game for a year. Not its not a long term deal. Awww poor guy, so sad.

If the players wanted to use this as a serious issure they could in Negoations with the NFL on the next contract, but I'm guessing that they would once again cave on it to get more % points on the over all deal.

Where do we come up with the Cap room for him. Only 1.5 left on the books this year, so unless we are losing a couple of big deals, and I admit to being unclear if we are or not, we have no room left to add a big time contract.

Franchise tag in football means nothing really as we just saw with Hall. You can sign all the long term big dollar contracts you want and get cut and make nothing 2 months later. At least he is getting paid big bucks with the tag.

The Big difference is witha long term deal the signing bonus is a guarentee. They players get to keep that money if they are injured or cut, unless it is a situation like Sticky Ricky or Vick's legal problems.

That said, the tag means he will be one of the highest paid players at his position next year. I find it funny when a guy complains about that.

I admire aso for staying classy, but if the Raiders franchise him one more year I predict he's going to drop the boy scout act and tell Davis to hurry up and die.

no one gets paid 12 million in one year with a multi-year contract. He makes what he would in 2 years of a 7 year contract in one year.

Money-wise he wins, but he stays on a 10-loss team.
If he goes to another team that actually wins, then the win is in the better team, no matter what the contract looks like.

The Raiders would be smart to trade him while his value is through the roof. The Raiders clearly arent going to compete soon enough that his labor will pay off. They can lose another 12 games for the next 3 seasons without him, and with a good young core that they draft with the pick/s he is traded for.

With that said, Im not sure we could afford him. He would catapult us into a top 3 defense.

Its not all about the money, how fun could it be to lose all the fucking time i dont care it has to get frustrated to know u are "free agent" and know that it doesnt mean shit because you arent going play for a team that really has a shot to win.

With Favre gone next year im sure we'll have enough room for another big contract. Trust me there a ways for players to get their money and for the franchise to not hurt so much by it.

Its not all about the moeny, thats for sure. Still, the rule is there because of the CBA. The owners want it and the palyers have not forced it off the table to this point. Yea it Screws a few guys a year over, but helps get the group somehting else. Welcome to the lovely world of labor negotiations.

If Favre is gone then yes we will have a good deal of space, but is that the best situation? Will it matter how good or D is if we have to choose between Ratliff and Clemens next year?

If we can get a corner like him imagine how great our already improving defense can become. Brett Favre, okay lets take out that ridiculous game in Arizona season stats in 7 games 9 tds and 11 ints . I think ratliff can do that or better in 7 games next year
