I Googled the butt fumble tonight just to remind myself of the year (wasn't sure if it was 2011 or2012) and laughed out loud when I read the last line of this segment - I was at the game so was unaware of ToP, but I don't think I ever knew the Jets had the ball for 12 minutes in the quarter - holy crap can this team set unbreakable records. Anyone realize/remember that in the chaos of that 2nd quarter? "The play was the centerpiece of a disastrous sequence in the second quarter, wherein the Jets lost three fumbles and the Patriots scored three touchdowns in the span of 52 seconds of game time. In that second quarter, the Jets held the ball for over 12 minutes (out of a possible 15), but managed to be outscored 35–3."
Cool. Thanks for bringing it up, the one thing my friends troll me for here in Wisconsin. Sent from my SM-F926U using Tapatalk
Man..that’s crazy! I remember the game, but didn’t remember that crazy stat…like how in the HELL do you hold the ball for over 12 minutes in a quarter and get out scored 35-3??? That’s almost impossible. Only the Jets…you literally can not make this shit up
Yea I remember, it sucked some stupid ass running back caught a dump off and ran it 90 yards for a touchdown cause Rex blitzed everyone and failed then we started in on the fumbles/interceptions (order could be messed up)
Yeah, I totally remember how fast it all happened - but honestly never know we had the ball 12+ minutes. That's mindboggling.
Don't get me started on Rex "Field Goal" Ryan - those 3 points were worth their weight in gold. I mean, you're down 35-0, there's no reason at all to try and score a touchdown in the red zone with time on the clock and timeouts in your pocket.
Well....I seem to remember a game, labeled the "Monday Night Miracle," and the team was down 30 points going into the 4th quarter and won 40 to 37 in O.T. Happens once in a Millenia but, for a change, the Jets were on the other side of a massive scoring flurry. The tying points being scored by big ole' Jumbo Elliott on a tackle eligible play! One of the few games I didn't shut the T.V. off when they were getting blown out going into the 4th quarter. I remember a few friends that left the stadium and had to listen to it on the radio heading home.
I remember that one quite well. It was Thanksgiving, but we weren't celebrating until the next day for family reasons, so my dad and I were watching the game. He saw the first score New England had and then went into the kitchen to work on whatever we were having for the game when the second score happened, which gave him a laugh when I called out that the Pats had scored again. He was coming back into the room when the third score happened and asked if it was a replay of the one he'd missed and I had to shake my head in amazement and embarrassment and say "nope, they scored again" which caused him to go on laughing for several minutes. His favorite thing was laughing at my reactions to the woes of the Jets (he LOVED draft night ). Would have loved to have seen what his reaction would have been to Rodgers' injury.
@mezzavo that game is definitely top five for me as a lifelong jets fan. I shut the game off after 3 and then 5 minutes later figured I need to watch till the end because I was feeling something special.
Holy cow, I remember when he was the head coach for Miami. I'd never seen before or since a head coach more excited with clapping, slapping and general joy after red zone field goals as Tony. It was damn near comical seeing him celebrate 3 points. When I read that Rex hired him as ( a first time ) offensive coordinator once Miami relieved him of his services, a deep depression quickly swept over me as I knew the season would be a failure.
Living in New England, the trolling on this never really bothered me because I've seen way worse in my opinion... But not many people have brought it up in the past few years. Most Patriot fans have moved on to not paying attention to football again.
I had Thanksgiving early with 3 of my 4 boys, so we could go to the game. We were all looking forward then just after half time I called an audible and we left and went home for still warm leftovers.
