Jets rookie LG Alijah Vera-Tucker earned Pro Football Focus' highest grade in Week 5 among NFL offensive linemen at 92.4. He had a run-block grade of 90.6 and a pass-block grade of 88.9.
he missed most of the offseason. I expected him to start slow but he's already showing he was worth the pick.
Qb aside, the draft class is looking pretty good, avt, the Carters, Echols. … that’s better than the whole Mac tenure.
We need another like AVT at RG. To many times I see guys open and Zach doesn't have the time to look down field because of Van Roten. He sucks & is the reason Zach is running for his life so much.
Plenty of cap space and 2 first round picks leave the Jets with plenty of options to get it done and help solidify that RG position and piece together a quality O-line, hopefully they get it done.
This is a relief, we'd have been very screwed if AVT continued playing how he was to start the season. The OL being such an abomination made it tough to accurately grade Wilson. The OL's been decent the last couple weeks. It's time for Wilson to step it up.
If he keeps this up, then trading up for him will have been well worth it. I know Brad will disagree, and I welcome that.
I’m super happy that he is developing the way he is. Joe D made a great decision by moving up and getting this guy. The oline needed help and with Becton and AVT that could be a dominant combination for Jets for a very long time.
I was very worried about OL after first few games, but the unit has really come together, showing that JD indeed did a solid job on that front. Sure, I advocated and wish we got a a guy like Trai Turner to upgrade GVT, but nevertheless the unit has performed lately. McGovern has played well lately, and is now ranked as top 10 Center in PFF for the year. AVT is rated the best overall OLman over the past two weeks, allowing 0 pressures in two games and being ranked even higher in run game. That is impressive, given he is a rookie. I know some people were concerned with AVT trade, since we gave up extra 3d rounder and swapped another 3d for 4th, but we have the guy who just played as good as anyone on any OL in NFL for the past two weeks, and he is just a rookie who is getting better. In comparison, the best OLmen who were available with our pick (Darrisaw and Jenkins) have not done anything at all this year. Jenkins is out for the season and another injury prone OLman Darrisaw will finally make first start this weekend. All while we have the guy who started every game and was the best player in the League across the O line for last two weeks. That's well worth giving up the 3d rounder for. Well done by JD!
I agree, JD has done a good job of cleaning up Macagnans mess. Next years draft should bring in a lot of skilled players as well, the right side of the oline needs to be replaced. If JD continues to add quality players the CS has to be held accountable for not getting production out of them. Not saying anyone should be fired but there would be a disconnect somewhere, If this team continues to underperform and lose.
AVT for Jamal straight up seems like a fair trade so far, plus we get another 1st round pick next year. How can you not love it? Now if JD can trade Maye for a top RG......
Right now I would say AVT on a rookie contract is MUCH better than Jamal on 18 mil per. Not even close. O Line is much more valuable than Safety and AVT is playing as good as anyone at the position now. If he keeps this up, even the straight up trade is absolute fleecing in our favor. Extra first rounder, which is looking better and better probably makes it one of the most one sided deals in Jets history.
Wouldnt be shocked if McDermott slides in at RG but we will see. And Becton is 100% going back to LT, they’ve been poor running towards Fant’s side, and we know how well the Jets ran last year behind Becton, now add AVT being the Jets best linemen currently, that left side can be scary good IMO
A lot of negative view towards JD as of late, particarly in this trade up. Weird how he gets no praise for it when AVT continues to look better and better every week.
A good play for JD esp since those other rookies look bad like Darrisaw etc. see what happens when you draft OL!!
