It was scandalous to say the least, it seems to be an everyday thing. What BS! Two hands to the face penalties that were nonexistent, a blatant pass interference that wasn't called all against the Lions. Lets see what we are going to put up with next Monday against the pats.
If we are fortunate enough that the Jets are keeping it close towards the end of the game... The inexplicable penalties in favor of the Pats will be nauseating. However, the Jets need to not shoot themselves in the foot like the lions did (12 men in the field, delay of game, etc ) and make it even easier for the refs/pats
Agree with OP 100%. Officiating was a disaster in that game. However, what I couldn’t help but worry about is next week having to listen to Booger McFarland for 3 hours. He is absolutely horrendous.
Thing is I remember the Patriots were treated just like us regarding officiating In 2001 everything changed. All of a sudden they got every call all the time. Like the flip of a switch. They got the royal treatment, and we were still the Jets other teams get it too. We saw it with Dallas. Pitt and GB get it. But none of them get the help like NE
I did not have a dog in this fight on Monday Night football. But as the game proceeded, it became obvious that the officials were going to determine this game. Bad Call #1.) Roughing call on Walker of the Lions who was going for the ball. Accidental helmet hit, a penalty on the defense. I guess someone we know on this board would argue he was leading with his head. The head being in front of the shoulders make it that way, but whom am I to argue. I don't like this call but I understand it. Bad Call #2.) The hands to the head penalty on Flowers of the Lions nullifying a -11 yard sack making it 4th and 21. Clearly this was a total bull shit call, that gave the Packers a 2nd life and a touchdown later in the drive. Otherwise, they would have had to punt down 22-13 with 10 minutes left. Bad No Call #3) The non PI call that prevented Jones of Detroit from catching the ball for a 1st down. In all honesty, my old football side likes the non-call, but by today's officiating, this should have been a PI call. Bad No Call #4) The receiver, I think, Lazard for the Packers catches the ball to the right. He then on purpose lowers his head and hits the head of Coleman of the Lions to get extra yards. This was no accident but was intentional. Did we not hear that any hits to the head by the offense was supposed to be called? Now that I think about it, has there been any penalties on any offensive players for hitting to the head? I guess the safety of offensive players matter, but not the defense? Bad Call #5) Another hands to the head penalty on Flowers for the Lions finally nailing the game for the Packers. This bull shit call again prevented the Lions from ever getting the ball again and made for an easy field goal for the Packers. Conclusion.) I am not a Lions fan nor a Packers hater. Except for a possible non PI call against the Lions, the officials were calling everything for the Packers. Was this game fixed or are they really this bad? I hope in the name of God this officiating crew does not do the next MNF game. I want to see games decided by the players, not officials! One could argue the Lions who got screwed are not a playoff team, but any other team competing with the Packers for a playoff spot got screwed! I wish I never saw this game, I am very disillusioned! It will be interesting to see what BS the head of officials has to say.
LOL, the NFL has turned the Refs against us, so other teams can beat us, what a conspiracy, I was wondering why we are so bad of a franchise, little did I know.
I'm convinced that some of these games are fixed. I didn't watch the game but I'm reading about it now on PFT and your post. Just sooooo many bad calls, phantom penalties that end up deciding games. The end of the Cowboys-Jets game yesterday where the officials literally escorted Dallas down the field for the potential game tying TD and two points conversion. With legalized gambling now a thing anything is possible. The federal government needs to take a good look at what's happening in these games. It truly is disgusting.
one rule change should be, 1st and 30 Hack throws a 6 yd pass, BS pass interference gives Cowshits a first down, should have been 1st and 24
The automatic 1st down 5 yard penalty is what kills me. Yes it could be 3rd and a 100, but you still get the 1st down on a 5 yard penalty. So a QB can throw for over a 100 yards on one drive due to penalties? Any type of pass interference, holding, illegal contact should not give you an automatic 1st down. This has ruined the game for sure.
Also challenging the PI has been a total disaster, you can arguably call PI on every pass just like you can call holding on every play....the one that bugs me is a 55 yard pass, call PI, its a 55 yard penalty
A Cheats fan citing and complaining about shifty officiating, lol. Where were you the last time Tom Brady got breathed on? EDIT: This was not aimed at OP. I forgot to hit the quote button . . . My bad. *Caught for cheating!
Listening to that guy is almost as bad as listening to Michael Kay for a four-hour Yankee game. How do they hire these clowns?
The league is fixed in favor of the darling teams. If you're one of the hot shot teams with one of the big name players, the refs will make sure that calls go in your favor in order to make the game close or even give that team a decisive play that can turn the tide of the game. Doesn't mean that the players are in on it, but there's definitely a massive bias.
That was bad last night. The effort that the D has to put out to stop the O with everything equal is insane. Detroit D played with incredible effort and to give Green Bay with Rodgers free first downs like that is too much to overcome. It also penalizes effort and discipline which is the bedrock of good football.
yeah good call, that would be a good rule change. just make it a spot foul and replay the down from there. if it's good enough for a 1st down then so be it, if not it's not automatic. The only issue is how players will abuse it. like say for instance you are 3rd down 30 to go. you got man coverage, the WR blows by you 10 yards from the LOS, you can literally tackle him, take the 10 yard penalty and it's still 3rd and 20 instead of an easy TD. The issue is the rules were made to prevent that
