It's worth a listen. He keep saying how Farve had no protection so he couldn't throw downfield and he was getting hit hard. So, don' the coaches see that? You think after the first drive they would have stopped the spread formation. Also, Banks thinks they had the right plays calls in OT. I hear his point but to me it's still playing to not lose. http://www.wfan.com/
Carl Banks is one of the worst radio personalities on the air. The guy absolutely blows goats, and I couldn't give two shits what he thinks. This is the same guy that thought the Knicks would win 40 games last year. Not sure how he still gets air time...
Favre had plenty of time, favre held the ball too long in most of the cases where he got hit. He has plenty of time to get it downfield and w/ the running game working the way it was you would think he could freeze the D a bit on some playaction and buy an extra second or 2.
In the situations, which were few, that he had time nobody was open, I agree with the running game going so well the play action would have killed them, but it was never utilized...
It wasn't that Favre didn't necessarily have time - and you can blame him all you want for holding the ball too long (lets face it, this is BRett Favre, and holding the ball too long is just not him), but I have a feeling there were a lot of coverage hits on favre in hte game. Sure, I did watch the game, and I saw there were line issues here and there that got Favre hit more then usual... but some of them were not line faults, but coverage issues. Something is starting to tell me guys that your pass recieving options are not deep enough. You can blame the spread - but watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssAyxXB3q_c And that was just last season, and just passes to one WR. Now, you tell me that any of those passes really has a whole lot to do with a WCO. No, the fact remains that the play calling has to be better. It just has to be better folks. That was Favre last year - don't make me bust out his highlight reel from all of last year... it will just make you feel sick to your stomach how much the jets offensive coordinator is handcuffing the guy.
Favre was put on his ass alot but i think the fact of 2 shut down corners haulted our deep attack but we did rush for like 200 yards total and had 3 chances to win in ot. We didnt want it. plain and simple.
Even though Favre was taking hits, that spread formation was working. However, the protection in the spread was pathetic.....I doubt the plan was to throw every pass to Baker, but he had no time to throw to anyone else.....the thing that worries me is that pressure is coming from Mangold and Faneca, the guys who are supposed to be the most solid. Woody got abused too....
Hard to protect in a five wide set if they blitz. 7 on 5 or 6 on 5. It's a numbers game and a gamble for both sides.
The spread worked until they blitzed 6 or 7 and played bump and run coverage on the 5 wr's. If they blitz 6 or 7 the qb has at most 1.5 seconds to get rid of the ball before he gets killed. If all the receivers are basically not even into their routes at that point you can't run the spread. The sooner Keller is on the field every down the better. Next offseason they are going to have to find a big physical wr.
The Raiders have corners who can play man to man. That's how they could succeed with that type of D against the spread. I would prefer they get a speed demon at wr, the big guy they need you mentioned in the previous sentence. Not sure what the deal is with Keller not in there much.
I used to like Banks' radio show with Benigno but I'm sick of listening to him talk about buying a Vespa scooter. He's turning sports radio into a man's version of The View.
It seems to me that the WRs are having a hard time getting open. Favre is taking hits or dumping it off to a RB because nobody is getting open. We need a speed receiver added the the mix. I'd like to see more quick slants and play actions that play to some of Favre's strengths.
^ Basically. Oakland's secondary completely shut down our receivers in the game. On top of that, both Coles and Cotchery got banged up during the game. The pass protection was shaky early on when they were trying the 5-wide sets but they got out of it eventually and Favre had good protection. Bottom line is nobody was getting open.
No one was getting open and they use Baker instead of Franks or Keller. Franks is 6'6'' so he's open just by being on the field. Keller's athleticism is well known, why he is not getting playing time is a mystery. Of the three TEs on the roster Baker is well known as the worst at getting open and is known for being useless in terms of YAC. So why was he in? I think Pociask would have helped the team more this year, maybe he knows how to do stuff like remain upright and stuff.
i agree he had time. for some reason he was holding on to the ball for a long time. he had a bad game. plus who knows if the rec. were getting open
what about when baker fell and favre almost threw a pick? there was nobody around him! that was the game
Cotchery was injured early in the game. Coles was knocked into LALA land later in the game. Neither was 100% by the OT. Cotch was running through the motions from what I read. B. Smith got some action, Stuckey was used minimally. No wonder Favre was throwing to the TE's. Good corner play + beat up WR's = no big plays.
and that's his fault somehow? your favre hate is so blatant and obvious sometimes. at least blame him for stuff that's his fault and not 100% the coaching staff
