Does anyone else remember how good Barlow was before the niners became awful? Great pickup for the jets who are definitely in need of a running back with game breaking potential.

based on the homepage of this site, it said he had over 1,000 yds and 6 TDs a few yrs ago. That was his best output so far. Nothin to dance about.

That 5.1 YPC is pretty impressive though, even if he has tailed off recently.

Barlow definitely had the ability to put up better numbers, but he was stuck on a pass happy west coast offense with Jeff Garcia. Once Garcia left, teams just put eight men in the box because the niners had virtually no passing game.

yes, its important to keep in mind that the niners were as bad or worse offensively last year as us. they still have line issues. he could be good, but i wouldnt hold my breath.....

i would have prefered tj ducket, only because i dont think either one is a full-time future running back for this team. if we were to draft a young stud, we could keep ducket on as a change of pace back ( a la lamont jordan, or his relief for warrick dunn). i don't really see barlow fitting in as a change of pace guy.

True, however if Duckett worked out, we'd have to sign him to a new deal after the season, which is not guaranteed to happen. With Barlow, if he works out as a starter it gives us depth since he'd still be under contract for 2 more years. If he flops, we cut him and move on with no repercussions. Of course we'd have wasted a 4th rounder, but it's worth the risk IMO.

i agree with you to a certain degree. i disagree when you get into wherre youd rather have TJ

im one of those guys that isnt really impressed with duckett, yes, id like to have him on my team but only if a have a warrick dunn type guy (hopefully leon turns into one) who i know can take it 50 yds on any given play

Barlow is more of a work horse and has shown he can handle the load of a full time back and do it at a level of success

duckett hasnt proven that and im not that impressed, i think we would have to overpay for an unproven guy which i dont think were in any position to do

regardless, i like the effort the FO made to add an additional back. a barlow is certainly an upgrade over suggs. i hope eventaully I could be an effective running back with dbrick and mangold solidifying the line.
