- Pryor looked pretty damn good. Comes in and recovers a fumble on like his first defensive play, lays out a WR as a deep fielder, causing an incomplete, blitzes like a speed demon while looking to bat the ball up/down, and hits people really hard. I hope him blitzing so much is just a preseason thing, because we will probably need him playing deep on a lot more plays than he has in this game, given our shitty secondary, but still, the kid can play. - Anybody else get the feel that the Jets training camp is like a fraternity house? Everybody is goofing around (Mangold and Geno were photo-bombing Vick), players are getting an insane number of penalties, Colon and Giaconmini are looking to pick a fight with anything moving, and Coples looks high. This is one of the things I don't like about Rex, I mean being a player's coach is one thing, but he really lets the discipline go. - Not sure how I feel about AA playing cornerback. I only saw him when he was being thrown at, which wasn't often. Hope someone goes over the tape and does an analysis of how he did. - Kyle Wilson should not be allowed to play outside corner. In the spirit of letting AA play corner, I'd rather let Mangold and Snacks play CB than Wilson, outside of the slot. The man just cannot look up for his life. On the other hand, I kinda liked how Brandon Dixon, our 6th round pick played against the Bengals bench warmers. He looked active, helped in the running game, and made a nice pass defense when thrown at. If I was Rex, I would let him start next week, just to see what he can do against first team offenses. Not like we have anything to lose at this point. - Stephen Hill made one really nice catch, and blocked well, but also dropped one under pressure. Still, at least that's something. Amaro looked good. So did Kerley. - Powell looked really good, making me almost sad that it will be hard to find him playing time, behind Ivory and Johnson. He is really shifty, unlike those 2 guys, and can make something out of nothing. I wonder if we could package him and Daryl Richardson to some running back hungry team for a decent cornerback. Probably not. - Wilkerson and Coples were no-shows, Richardson was active in run defense and so was Snacks. Demario Davis looked good, and Pace was active. Overall, these guys didn't generate much pressure against Dalton and the first string offense, but between Rex using vanilla schemes, and accomplished players probably not really feeling motivated for preseason, don't know how much to read into that. - IK Howeveryouspellitpala is a player. The guy continues to make plays and that's a big deal. I think he will make the cut.
salas needs to make the team. pryor is not a bust amaro might not be either geno looks considerably batter than last year we are loaded at rb
Second preseason game in a row we did most of our damage with the first team going up against the second team, color me unimpressed.
Geno looked solid overall (INT can be corrected) Calvin Pryor is a stud. RB corp is one of the best in league. Stephen Hill showed some signs of life on the best Personal Foul of the night. Amaro looked really good. Vick is Vick. Jets need a new Punt/Kick Returner (Jacoby Ford stinks) Kyle Wilson is god awful (Still) Greg Salas could help this team out. IK Enemkpali deserves a roster spot. Lankster can hold his own. Tahj Boyd has worse accuracy than Mark Sanchez. AJ Edds deserves a roster spot. Having Colon and Giacomini next to each other is a penalty waiting to happen.
I fuckin love Pryor...dude is an enforcer baby. I dont even care if he gets flagged its worth it for the intimidation
I wonder if Coples is taking it easy this preseason after he broke his foot last year which caused him to start slow. Worth a thought Salas most definitely should make this team... Decker/Nelson/Kerley/Hill/Salas/Ford/Saunders or Enunwa sounds about right Richardson looked hungry tracking down a screen play during the beginning of the game. He's gonna be a player I wonder which team considers signing Kyle Wilson when he's a free agent. We really swung and missed on that one
Pryor - this kid is the real deal. Offensive line played better tonight. Definitely flowed better with Aboushi in. Winters still looks rough. Geno looks good enough - mistimed a throw with Nelson that lead to an interception but wasn't reminiscent of last year at all Salas is good, shifty and has reliable hands. Tajh Boyd is god awful Antonio Allen actually played well at CB as did Lankster. However , the unit as a whole still underwhelming and Kyle Wilson can't turn his head around after all these years. Amaro already starting to bounce back. The defensive line didn't really impress tonight. No pressure on Dalton. Ik enkepampali is a playmaker.
Offense -Geno looked solid. I liked how he improvised on a few plays when things broke down. He made some good throws. The int was a miscommunication. Better to get those things out of the way now. -Offensive line was solid albeit undisciplined. They need to clean that up. -Chris Johnson looks good. -Kerley is a stud. -Powell proves why he's a valuable asset on this team despite people wanting to get rid of him. -Hill was decent, he blocked pretty well (an underrated aspect of his game) and he made a nice catch as well. -Salas is making it hard on the coaches to cut him. I think he's a keeper. -Amaro looks like he'll be making an impact this year.
Geno looked fine. the turnover was a miscommunication, a correctable one at that. otherwise he looked plenty decisive. B The O-line looks overzealous and sloppy. Aboushi didn't do poorly, but the penalty's and drive to fight eveydamnbody has to go at the door when they enter Metlife stadium to play Oakland. D+ the skill players looked good as well, Amaro, Johnson and big props to Powell (Is it just me or is he a better receiving Rb than Johnson?). Even Hill made a decent looking catch. Not a lot of errors except possibly on that pick. B+ the front 7 was disappointing, maybe more coplex looks in the regular sedans will help but they were unimpressive. C+ the secondary… Well Pryor looked as advertised. Wilson… turn your head man. he was the most disappointing man out there, seeing as how he was a starter playing in his natural position. lankster and Allen did about as well as they were gonna, that AJ play on AA just wasn't fair… C- Special teams had its moments, a lot of players are gonna have to get consideration based on their efforts here. gates is mediocre as a KR, I wonder if somebody else can do it? B+
Defense -Calvin Pryor was the player of the game in my eyes. He was everywhere. -DeMario Davis looks like he's about to take a step up from solid to good. He was making plays and looked active. -Sheldon Richardson had that one nice chase down tackle. He's pretty fast for a big dude. -Kyle Wilson stills doesn't know how to turn his head around. Disappointing showing for him. -I don't like Antonio Allen at CB. -IK is going to make this team. -Ditto for Trevor Reilly.
Hill once again looks like he can't play physical football. Why didn't Simms get some snaps over Boyd? Pryor and Powell looked amazing.
Same here, unfortunately in the regular season our 1st team won't be playing their second an third units
During one of Rex's pressers this week, somebody asked him about Simms and Boyd. Rex sort of brushed off the idea that Simms would get reps, and guaranteed that "Tajh" would get his. It's pretty obvious at this point that the reason Simms hasn't gotten a second look is because Rex doesn't like him, for reasons that aren't readily apparent. And since Rex has proven to be a complete idiot in terms of the QB position, or even any offensive position, you have to wonder if a good opportunity is being squandered. But hey, some stat for the defense will rank top 5, which makes it okay.
