One of my best friends is a huge bills fan, he lives up there and never misses a bills game, and when i asked him about signing Teague (sp) he said and i quote " lets just say i was happy to see you guys sign him" and he went on to say that bills fans were sick of this guy cuz he gets blown off the ball every play, and that during the season there were even grumblings of him losing his job, but they just didnt have another option.

I am just passing along this info, personally i like the signing, at least if nothing else he can be an ok starter and if it came to it he would be a good backup.

The more and more i hear about this guy the more i dislike this signing. I really feel that we should go with Mangold in the draft.

I think he might be depth, but could start some games.... the most important thing about getting Teague is that Kendall can stay at guard.... where is is still good, but he SUCKS as a center. Even if Teague can't handle guys like Wilfat, it's an upgrade..... at the very least, he can call the O line blocking assignments, something Kendall was clueless about. Crap, Kendall had no clue who he was supposed to block when he played center, nevermind calling the O line assignments. He was cheap, and it's only a 2 year contract.

    thanks vilma

One common theme is this "gets blown off the ball" thing. Seem to have read that a lot from bills fans so far.

The tough thing to judge is what the Jets do on draft day..and after. Versatility seems to be another strong point of his...so perhaps the front office has another move concerning starting center up their sleeves.

    Thanks for the update.

He is legit an average center. That's why we got him for so little and why he lasted as a FA for so long. We should still draft Mangold if he's there.

He is a depth player, who is very versatile, being able to play both center and tackle. Not only that, we signed him for extremely cheap.

as far as im concerned his slate is clean come training camp. no body wil be handed anything well maybe except vilma .. but everyone else will be competiting to start so he has a chance if he earns he deserves it. i hope mangini sticks to this approach this will make our players better in the long run.

I don't understand what Tangini is doing...We signed Norm Katnik who played at USC and I was told the kid is solid, but it seems that the Jets are signing several players at several positions to see who can win it out...

If we cut Mawae because we were going younger, then why do we sign Teague? He's nothing more than a year or two younger than Mawae...I just don't get it.

And if we are going to draft Mangold at 29 then we'll have 3 centers...that just might work.

Because this team needs depth, especially with the offensive line.

We didn't cut Mawae because of age. He was cut because he is a locker room lawyer who has a history of getting coaches fired.

It's all about creating competition, improving depth and enabling the Jets to take a flexible approach in the draft. Teague plays center and tackle. We could use help at both positions. If the Jets draft a center, and he's not 100% ready to take the reigns, we don't need to rush him on the field because we're naked at the position. And if someone drops into their laps that wasn't expected to fall, then we don't have to select a position of need vs. BPA.

I've heard and read, too, that Teague has problems with a big bull rush. Of course he's not immune to the bull rush of a Sam Adams or Ted Washington, but there aren't many centers who can handle it. Mawae held up pretty well vs. Admas and Washington, but he didn't make the Pro Bowl by beating back the bull rush. Hopefully, if we don't have guards like Jonathan Goodwin alongside Teague, he'll get the help he needs should be pressed into service.

He got Groh fired, and he openly complained when Edwards was still the coach that the team needed a coach who would push them harder (of course, he said that Groh was pushing them too hard, so he's a bit of a hypocrite.)

This was how I felt at first, too, but now I think we still will go for Mangold in the draft - unless something crazy happens. I think he's going to be for depth and maybe to start the first half of the season until Mangold gets up to speed. (that's my guess at least)
