derrick blaylock is very overlooked by alot of people. I think if we give him a shot he could be a pretty decent running back for our organization. He also spent a few years in KC learning from one of the best to ever play the game.

when he was on the chiefs he got 539 yards on 118 carries

last season shaun alexander got 1880 yds on 370 carries

now i know these are just projected but if blaylock got around 370 carries he would have been projected to get 1690 yds. (now i know it is hard to be consistent but.. take 100 or even 200 yds off that would be exceeding expectations)

im just trying to show how well blaylock did when he got carries and was healthy

derrick also had about 250 yds recieving

i really hope he can do well with our new young o line...thats if we give him carries

anyone else have any comments or ideas about the future of the jets running game?

(i dont want anyone to get me wrong here and think im comparing him to Alexander at all, i just used alexander to show what a starting rb would get in a season carries wise)

I think Blaylock will be a very good RB when giving the full load and if he stays healthy. I think this year Martin and him will split the carries evenly.(if Martin's knee hold up) Which I think it will.

He could be a decent change of pace guy. He's got good speed and vision, but he's not a run between the tackles type of guy. He's also a decent receiver out of the backfield like you mentioned ... possibly a 3rd down back.

You're the first person I've ever heard call priest the best to ever play the game. Payton, Sanders, Brown have to start that list.

edit: ignore this ... i thought you said THE best.

Behind the best o-line in football. A lot of backs would have had success there.

Consistency is the key to this point. Alexander has put up similar number the past few seasons and always carries the majority of the workload. Lamont Jordon put up great numbers as a part time back, and put up good numbers in Oakland as the starter last season but fell off big time at the end of the year. He was tired. Until he takes all the carries, I don't think these projections are worth too much.

Out of all our backs, I see Houston as most likely to be a full time back. He has good vision, size and decent speed. Hopefully he can pickup a bunch of carries this season.

I think blaylock gets a bad rap from the fans. We loved him when he came onboard basiclly got injuried and we say very little then the fans turn on him. I need to see what he can do healthy before I knock him

Willie, your right that blaylock was behind ONE OF the best O Lines in football

theres a reason i compared him to alexander, who ran behind a line who is argueably just as good if not better
