We need the depth, could come at a discounted rate for a 1 or 2 year deal, thoughts? Guys played 9 games in 3 years...ouch.
On at least 31 message boards this same conversation is happening right now. I can't see how any team would go to great pains to sign him though. He can't stay on the field, and the long-term impact of his multiple injuries has got to have diminished his skills some.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6135553 Two-time Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders, plagued in recent years by injuries that have limited him to nine games in three seasons, has been cut by the Indianapolis Colts. Sanders Sanders Sanders, scheduled to make a $5.5 million base salary with a $500,000 offseason workout bonus, was released just three years after being named NFL defensive player of the year. "We thank Bob for all his incredible contributions, from his Super Bowl interception to his defensive player of the year honor," Colts owner Jim Irsay said in a team statement, referring to Sanders' 38-yard, fourth-quarter play in the 2007 Super Bowl win over the Chicago Bears. Sanders, who tore the biceps muscle in his right arm during the first quarter of the season-opener, later had surgery and did not return for the Colts in 2010. In 2009, Sanders went on season-ending injured reserve with a torn biceps in the left arm. "I want to thank Mr. Irsay for the opportunity to play with the Colts," Sanders said in the team statement. "I appreciate all he and the organization did for me throughout my career, and I always will consider myself a Colt. I want to thank the fans also for their great support. They played a big part in making my seven years with the team very rewarding." it doesnt say it but to me it sounds like he is retiring....
Now I'm no expert on injuries but how the hell does a guy tear his left bicep and then the right one the following season? What the fuck is this guy doing in his offseason? Seriously any team that signs him is obviously going to have to do so with an incentive laden deal and honestly I'd much prefer the Jets to address that area with somebody who isn't relying on incentives to earn a paycheck.
Clearly the guy is an injury machine, but I have to say that if he stays healthy, this could be a huge steal. He just turned 30, and in terms of the games he has played, he is a young 30. He might be someone to look at for depth, and if he somehow stays healthy, a huge season.
I'd like to see him as a Jet if the money's right. Don't think he's a young 30.. More of a crippled 30
Oh the off season cannot pass quickly enough. I guess we can expect this for every single player that gets cut. I do not see how this would be a good move even if he played for free it would be a waste of a roster spot.
