First, let me just say B.Smith has been great this year, exciting to watch and AWESOME on Special teams. That being said, every time he lines up at QB the opposition knows it's a running play and they key on the run, happened twice yesterday on 3rd & short. I'm not saying that you shouldn't use Smith in those situatioons, but if you're going to do that you need to have him throw a pass once in a while, so the D can't stack the line, like they will all do when they see him at QB. The guy had 8,000 passing yards in college, let him throw the ball.
I agree- surely his throws would be better than what we saw from Chad "Rattle Me" Pennington yesterday.
i'm thinking that we will see a pass against the patriots, and i also fully expect the patriots to be ready for it
It would be nice to see Brad to a playaction out of the shotgun to Leon and then hit coles for a 50 yard TD pass. That would make defenses respect his passing ability
They got too cute with Smith yesterday...The playcalling on 3rd downs were pretty bad. 3 times putting Smith in on 3rd and short is a little much, maybe once a game...
They should promote Smith to the third Wr and let him catch some passes so we can see what he can do for next year.
Smith should be the #WR and used similar to Randel El in Pitt. Receiving, end-arounds, option passes and some motion to the backfield. By the way, he is probably the best special teams player not named Ben Graham.
Work him out of the slot like others have said...He'd pose mismatches to Nickel corners due to his size and speed combination... I would think he'd be more explosive than Dwight outta the slot.
I agree with you as well. It was blantantly obvious that we were going to run when he was behind center yesterday
I agree, they should throw the ball his way a bit if they are going to utilize him properly. Plus they have to let him throw the ball once or twice but once he lines up as QB most teams realize something's coming. Better to try a flanker pass or a HB option with him.
The playcalling on both sides of the ball has gotten stale in general. Mangini/Schottenheimer/Sutton got too comfortable with what worked in the beginning of the season, and other teams have caught up with their scouting. We have a lot of big play players (Smith, Washington, Coles & Cotchery could all bust loose for a score with a few blocks) so why not use them! Try some inventive plays!
What's the average gain when Brad Smith lines up behind center? One yard? Half a yard? Enough already.
Overall, the Jets playcalling has been Hackettesque in its predictability. BS and Sutton just don't seem to be able to think "on the fly" but instead, plod along and perhaps once in awhile, think outside the box. Although we won today, I wasn't satisfied one bit with the coaching and playcalling on either side of the ball. Waay too conservative. Good thing we were playing the Phish today. We did just enough to win. Not an impressive win by any stretch although the sacks were a nice surprise..
NO. He should just be taught to be a WR , which I don't think hes very good at. If we are going to run Brad Smith every time we line him up behind centre , we may as well use Leon Washington instead. These stupid gimmick plays that hardly ever work , really piss me off, there goes another waste of a down.
Agreed. I think Brad Smith is a lousy Wr as well. ST's or at best, a diversion. We're hurting at the Wr position folks. Hurtin bad..
Damn dude.........we're setting up the Pats.....Smith will throw like a 50 yard bomb on them...shhhhhhhhhhhhh
