The list of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history includes names like Herb Adderley, Mel Blount, Darrell Green, Mike Haynes, Night Train Lane and Deion Sanders. But Jets receiver Brandon Marshall says his teammate tops them all. Darrelle Revis is the greatest cornerback of all time, according to Marshall. “I’ve been around great ones,” Marshall said on ESPN. “I practiced against Champ Bailey . . . Charles Tillman. Played against some great guys. I didn’t play against Deion, butDarrelle Revis is the best in the league. Ever.” Told of those comments, Revis said he appreciated it. “It’s a great compliment from Brandon,” Revis said. “I played against him throughout my whole career. We’ve had our battles. He’s won some battles when we played against each other in the past and I’ve won some. I think it’s just a mutual respect that we have for each other.” Marshall respects Revis more than any other cornerback he’s ever faced. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-revis-is-the-best-cornerback-in-nfl-history/
I wonder on some level is this another cog in Marshall's mental battle with himself. He lines up on revis in tc, beats him in the air and takes it to the house and can spend all day telling himself he's beaten the best ever. On the other hand revis beats him down and he can tell himself it took the best ever to stop him and his confidence doesn't suffer. There is no real argument with the statement Marshall made but I wonder did he make it as a tool to help himself(which I have no problem with either)
Seems more like marshall is going over the top to show he is a good teammate. Not that he is wrong, debatable, but not wrong. But he has been pouring out the ccompliments lately
Marshall is a fiercely loyal teammate and not much of a historian of the game. I don't think he's qualified to make such a statement, at least an unbiased statement.
Most CB's are not good tacklers. What makes Prime better IMO every time he got the football in has hands he was a threat to take it to the house. Plus Prime would bate QB into thinking his WR was open and then use his speed to pick it off.
deion was a lot less than not a good tackler, and if you want to lay claim to being the best EVER you better be able to do all facets of your position well. while revis isn't taking one to the house every few weeks he has that ability and does have a couple touchdowns. deions prowess as a special teams player doesn't really count in as part of him being one of the best corners ever. he covered like nobody else but had holes in his game. revis does not.
Revis is the best CORNERBACK ever. Most people's arguement is Deon was a return man but that's not what a corners job is so it shouldn't be a part of the debate. As a cornerback Revis is Elite in all aspects and can do whatever he's asked and can cover anyone.
this is fair. revis is definitely a better cover corner but deion frequently put points on the scoreboard and caused turnovers. no shame in being the best since.
no way, revis is just as good of a cover corner as sanders was. and he is a much much much better tackler. deion had 9 int returns for td in 14 years. revis has 3 in what amounts to 7 years. its just not that big of a difference to compare to the difference in tackling ability. the guy tackles like he is a safety. you CANT discount that. deion 53 int in 14 years, revis 23 in 7. once again not a huge difference. deion basically shut down half the field and other than the lost year in tampa so has revis.
AND if deion wasn't a huge hype machine, or if revis wasn't so laid back and willing to not be in the spotlight.
i wonder if Prime time didn't return kicks if people would still be saying this..[/QUOTE]I would. I don't even talk about his kick returns. Prime Time use to play games with the QB's he faced. He would make it look like his wideout was open and just pick the ball off. He played a game with in the game.
