We had a discussion about this at work today, where Jets fans surprisingly outnumber Giants fans 5-1. I'm curious what everyone thinks is the breakdown percentage-wise between the two teams? I'm thinking 60-40 Giants.
Thats what I think it is too. It was a discussion in one of my classes. But Jets fans show their team pride a lot more than the Giants do.
I'm not from NY, or even the USA for that matter lol; but I'd imagine there's no way one can predict any numbers without an actual poll being taken. However I'd assume there's slightly more Giant fans as a result of their recent and past successes. Sadly, it's been a while for us...
oops, i just wrote something stupid and deleted it..............I cant see how its possible. i would think most of NJ are Jets fans and probably 60/40 in NY for the Giants. I would think its close in terms of total fanbase size. But what do I know.
P.S. "This week in Football" on the yes network (on now) is very lame, but they are breaking down the game right now. FYI
Brooklyn, Queens and LI are Jets territory, most of the rest tilts strongly towards Giants. The Giants also tend to attract classier, wealthier fans. A lot of Jets fans picked the Jets just to root for the underdog, but I bet its mostly who was winning the most when you were at the age when you had to choose. I personally picked the Jets for two reasons, my Dad was a Giants fan and they were still playing within NY when I picked.
The breakdown is historically Mets/Jets/Islanders (the LI teams) vs. Yankees/Rags/Giants. Now, Mets/Yankees has evened out, but G-Men and Rag fans far outnumber the Isles and Jets fans
The Giants played a season or two in the Yale Bowl in the 70s, which could be responsible for their CT following... My father grew up in New Haven, and said his neighborhood went CRAZY for Giants football when they were forced to play there.....
For the entire tri-state area, I'd say it's about 60-40, Giants fans because there are a lot of Jets fans in NJ and Long Island. But in just Manhattan, I'd say it's more like 80-20 Giants fans.
Can't as it would be skewed one way or another since you would also have to add income to the equation. If a JETS fan who makes $250k would buy more than a Giants fan who makes $35k that would have a dynamic impact on the final #. Roundabout? maybe. If you just take into consideration the buyers address and NOT the amount of items purchased.
