Maybe I'll give them Pennington though he was a 1st rounder and probably already pretty polished by the time we drafted him.
Franchises probably have about 10% to do with developing QBs. Either you get very lucky and draft a QB that is good or you dont.
One hand washes the other. There's no point in drafting a QB who has the capability of developing, when you have no one to develop him.
Alright I am going to get a lot of flack for this but there goes. Although I wasn't a fan when he played, Ken O' Brien was a two time Pro Bowler and AFC Player of the Year. When I look at the litany of garbage we've sent out since I've been a fan.... doesn't he count in the plus column as one of the few decent QB's we've developed? I'm sure he fell off the wagon later in his career. But whenever we talk about Jets QB's, it's Joe and the rest are garbage. O'Brien has to be considered with some love, by somebody? Okay, begin throwing the banana peels now.
I liked O'Brien. A little slow afoot, but he's an order of magnitude ahead of much of the rest in our sorry history. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/draft.htm
Kellen Clemens, Sandy Stevens, etc. Namath, Todd, O'Brien, Pennington. Each of those guys was a first rounder. With the exception of Stevens (1962) and Sanchez, we've had pretty good success drafting QBs in the first. Maybe that's the problem-we just aren't fully committed to the position and are just throwing darts.
Kenny had a couple of very good seasons and is definitely the 2nd best ever....what's that you say Junc, Namath stinks!
Erik Ainge says, "Hi!" Anyone else remember drafting John Huarte? Remember he won the Heisman in '64 over Jerry Rhome and Craig Morton ...
Joe Namath Richard Todd Ken O'Brien and Chad Pennington We should also name the HOF caliber 3rd string QBs, that Jet fans always daydream about, you the one that the HC and OC just can't seem to harness they're greatness. Matt Robinson Pat Ryan Brooks Bollinger Brett Ratliff Greg Mcelroy Chris Simms Bryce Petty.....and there 100s of others
Those are the only four by my count. Always liked Ray Lucas, who knows what might've been if Parcels had gone to him instead of Mirer in '99...

My username says it all. When Pennington stepped into the lineup after riding the bench for several years, he was not only physically ready to play, but mentally. As we all know, injuries destroyed his career. Had he been healthy and had a good supporting cast, I really don't think it would be a stretch to say it would have been the most successful time period of our franchise.
You won't get any flack. KOB was enjoyed by the majority of right-thinking Jets fans. His biggest negative was being drafted ahead of Marino, which was none of his fault. The other issue was that he probably couldn't beat Kris Jenkins in a 60yd dash towards the end - but I'm not sure if that was due to his stamina or being sacked 50 times a game over a period of years.
