Coach: Eric Mangini Players: Eric Barton Abram Elam Brett Ratliff Kenyon Coleman CJ Mosely David Bowens Hank Poteat Amazing how many mediocre to terrible players Mangini brought over to the Browns. Anyone else going to keep an eye on the Browns more this year? I will. I will be interested to see how Mangini coaches them and how some of the former Jets play. I liked Barton and Elam alot.
Greatest part about Elam was that CLE was very close to just signing him straight out but the Jets had matched their contract offer.
True, but were only on defense and their defense was great. Where as Mangini took a bunch of our rejects.
We only got 2 Raven players and they are starters. Most of the players the Browns got are not starter material.
Doesn't Cleveland realize these are the same mediocre players that didn't deliver in NY? I'm confused by this. Just because Mangini knows these guys doesn't mean they're worth 2 cents.
You forgot that Jerome Henderson (DB) and Brian Daboll (QB) were also hired by Mangini. I thought Henderson was horrible -- Daboll was serviceable, though not sure what he contributed in '07 to the bad quarterbacking play or to the '08 play of Favre.
There's not a player on that list I wouldn't like to have on the Jets right now. Role players all, that's for sure, but every single one of them is a solid back-up. Don't get me wrong, I like our moves. But with the exception of Ratliff, who is a young guy who's shown solid potential, every one of those guys is an underrated veteran. For the record, we still raped the Browns.
Were you willing to stake the franchise on that possibility? People act like Tom Brady sat on the bench for a few seasons while the Pats actively tried to shop every QB in the league. Teams by and large know what they have in a guy after a few seasons.
Definitely rather be a Raven than a Jet. I can't tell if that's a backhanded compliment, or, uh, a forehanded insult?
Ratliff next season 65.0% 3850 Yards 25TD's 13INT's Browns and Mangina win the superbowl with our QB!
The one thing that I think most Jets fans failed to see over the years is that mediocrity is not good enough. Take a look at the list that the OP posted of all these former Jets that are now on the Browns. There is not one player on that list that is a quality starter. And most of the players on that list started for us at some point. Mangini always settled with mediocrity, and I'm all for starting fresh.
Not totally. Marty Schottenheimer is a great coach and he thought Elvis Grbac was better than Rich Gannon. About half the league thought the ball boy was better than Kurt Warner. Atlanta had Favre for a year and was happy to trade him away. SD thought Drew Brees was a weak link and needed to be replaced. And did you ever hear of a guy named Jim Plunkett? Lots of QBs sit on the bench unnoticed for years and then become good.
Most of these players were signed as cheap free agents, no real reason to criticize that. I would rather have Hank Poteat than Drew Coleman, so Mangini wins that particular IQ contest. Bowens can play two positions, pretty much the same with Barton. The whole NE mantra is having flexible players so injuries don't kill the season. Ratliff is a vastly better athlete than Sanchez, lets see how that one works out.
