    The News

Laveranues Coles spoke about his long-term future on Tuesday. "Being in this system, it's a little tougher than most systems I've been in," Coles told Newsday. Other systems, I feel I would have more longevity and it wouldn't appear to be as tough on my body. Being in this system, there's a lot of wear and tear, the long practices, the long days. It is what it is. You have to put the grind in."

    Our View

Coles got beaten up quite a bit last year and, though he has always been able to play through his various bumps and bruises, it sounds like coach Eric Mangini's tough-nosed style is wearing on him a bit. Coles also said he wants to end his career as a Jet, so this shouldn't be taken as an indictment of Mangini's system. Basically, this has no fantasy impact whatsoever, but it's interesting to note that a player seemingly in his prime already has the end of his career on the radar screen.

It’s so weird to hear Coles bitching and whining about something.

    I know!!! Right?

It's been at least 10 minutes since he's complained... It's really Chad's arms fault anyway

Why can't Lavaranues just go to the coach with these concerns and see if he can catch a break, especially in the next couple seasons, because he is getting older....Mangini seems understanding

How could you be so callous? He's our QB, man. We must support his arm as well as the duct tape that holds it together.

you guys want pie in the sky. Coles did not say anything bad; nor did I take it as b'ing and moaning.

WTF are you talking about? Please explain to us how this is Coles bitching and complaining? And please explain to us when in the last year months has Coles bitched and complained. Sorry saying that training camp is tough IS NOT BITCHING AND COMPLAINING. And honestly i don't know about you but i would imagine getting knocked the fuck out by Zach Thomas is reason enough to start thinking long term. You expect Coles to make the catch and take the monster hit but you dont expect him to voice concern over his future. get bent man.....

Anybody who doesn't know that Coles vents when he's stressed really doesn't watch the Jets much.

Unless he's talking about money I just shrug it off and expect to see the same great receiver on the field each and every game.

How is he venting? And how can YOU make that assesment? Do you personnally know Coles and has he told you he vents when he stresses? Prolly Not. What your doing is the same bullshit the media guys do which is take shit at face value. I love that every comment Coles makes is viewed as him bitching or venting. CAN'T A MAN SPEAK ANYMORE WITHOUT WORDS BEING PUT IN HIS MOUTH? Don't assume like you know when your just following what the media makes it out to be...

Seems pretty clear that when Coles bitches PMCRWODLDA gets stressed out and has a melt down. Go ask your mom for a freezer pop and chill out. :breakdance:

I think one of the next 2 drafts we will be drafting a WR early. We need another playmaker plus a replacement for once LC leaves

    No we do not....

Cotchery could easily become a #1WR..Brad Smith is only in his 2nd year. J-Mac seems to be better then last year. And Chansi Stuckey has shown some real flashes.

I'm not looking to stay on this argument about him "venting" or not. But I think BradwaySucks was trying to say that Coles always had something to say when it came to camp and he outperforms his word / complaining / venting or whatever. It was the same thing last year. Even after the year was over, Coles was saying he didn't know how he was going to go through another camp (and this was quoted when asked about 2007's camp being tougher). Coles is tough as nails and regardless of what the injury report says, he will be out there - running routes across the middle and elsewhere to score TD's.

Besides, if it wasn't for Chad's laser rocket arm putting it in 87's number's every time, maybe he wouldn't get laid out on every crossing pattern.

He is just venting. There was interview that was posted where he said exactly that. It's slow so the media jumps on his comments to make a story. The same thing happened last year. I am happy that Coles is a Jet. He is one of the better WRs to ever wear green and white. Who cares if he complains a little off the field because he plays with pure heart while on it.

If Coles feels the need to shoot his mouth off once in a while, fine. He's one of the most productive and in my opinion the most underrated reciever in the game. Unlike others at his position, he's a true gamer who goes out and gives it his all on every play. He doesn't question his teammates leadership, and if this is his most scathing criticism of Mangini, I'm sure the boy-wonder will survive.
