It seems that the LT/Chargers era is over. Sources are saying that what LT really wants now is to join a team that has a serious chance of getting him a ring. With the potential of Thomas Jones no longer being a jet, and Greene/Leon being injury risk, do you think it would be a smart move for the jets to show interest in LT ? Next year being an uncapped year I could see little risk to the jets signing him, and the potential for upside could be significant (and just as likely he could continue to play like garbage) I mean LT has played like a bum for the last couple of years, but to be fair the chargers have built their team completely around the pass. Do you think it would be a stupid move for the jets to sign LT to a 1 or 2 year contract IF we lost Thomas Jones or Leon ? Update: LT is visiting Rexy Friday
LT looked horrible this year....and was a total NON-factor in the Divisional playoff game. he's done.......no thanks.
No! I think TJ will still be here. So we already have an older back who has reached his peak. Too risky to have two!
People want to get rid of Jones cus he is old even though he just had a great season. Why would we want to replace jones with someone who is worse and just as old.
The argument for bringing LT in would be to use him as a slot receiver I think. He's definitely done as a runningback.
8 million reasons, starting with 3 million due before the draft. That said, Jones is probably still a serviceable back - although clearly a danger to drop out any season now unexpectedly due to his age and accumulating wear and tear. I'd much rather the Jets go find some younger legs to help carry the load next year. Neither Jones nor LT is likely to be worth anything in January next year.
If the jets brought TJ back as is it would cost them 5.8 million dollars. The jets dont sound very fond of paying it. So if they dont work something out it sounds like Thomas Jones could be gone. And with LT potentially being a free agent, coming off 2 subpar years and only being interested in teams that could contend seriously, his options are rather limited. Personally I think his most likely bet is that he will be an Eagle but who knows
Seriously. I'm not a huge supporter of TJ, but he showed much less wear than Tomlinson had this season. They are both on the back end of their careers, but I don't see any reason to trade one declining back for another that is declining more quickly. 3 years ago, I would have jumped at this chance, but runningbacks go from great to done overnight most times.
When you say LT you clearly mean Lawrence Taylor. And yes, he would a great asset to the Jets. For real though, Tomlinson is finished as a starting back. He's a slightly above average change of pace/spellback at this point. His problem is that he doesn't want to be a backup. He hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy in the past few years, which is an area that Jones has EXCELLED in. He's also nothing more than an average receiving threat at HB in that he can take advantage of mismatches if left in single coverage downfield against a MLB, but isn't a threat to break a screen play wide open unless it's perfectly blocked. If Tomlinson (LdT) is going to settle for a limited/backup role at a reasonable (read: far less than he wants) price, it's probably going to be with a team that is a contender (if he wants a ring badly) or an AFC West division rival (if he wants revenge but never cares about winning ever...badly). I doubt he comes out here and I doubt the Jets offer him anything.
We would be better off bringing Thomas Jones back. TJ is even older and had his best season of his career(reg season) LT would be waste of carries. I would rather have danny woodhead run the ball.
The only reason to bring him in would be as a mentor and situational player. We have TJ that can mentor and Leon will be back, so with TJ, Leon and Shonn , where ? At WR??? Don't make me laugh.
