I'd pass on this redneck jerk. From the Newark Star - Ledger: http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/114101912243320.xml&coll=1 "The only person to speak more highly of Cutler at the combine was ... well, Cutler, who threw his college teammates under the proverbial bus when asked about his rising stock despite Vanderbilt's 11-35 record in his four years". "I got it done without a lot of guys around me," he said. "Nothing against those guys, I love them to death, but I didn't have All-Americans scattered across the field and I had to adjust, I had to deal with pressure." Furthmore, If Vince Young had Cutler's rap sheet, don't you think it would be the talk of the combine? He doesn't sound like the kind of high character player Mangini talks about. Here's Cutler's rap sheet: http://sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=nytimes&page=/cfoot/news/AFN2361723.htm
i agree with buttleman i can see his point, i don't know if it's something that has to be said but he is trying to prove he is a good QB despite the record
I agree it wasn't that bad. The writer AND Rajenson are reaching. However..........11-35? Doesn't that worry people?
It's not the point. I agree that it's true. God knows he didnt have studs arround him, but IMO thats just not something you come out and publicly state. It just seems like all of this hype is going to his head, and I'm not a fan.
Hey, I just don't know why we didn't win. My OL was the best in the country and our HB and WRs were even better. I guess I just suck. Oh, by the way, will you make me a top 5 pick because I'm such a good guy?
But guys, he has a great arm! Who cares that he's never done anything in college, he has a STRONG ARM. It's amazing that people are still basically judging a QB on his arm strength when its readily apparent that there is so much more to the position.
Cutler was just stating the truth he did not have the supporting cast that USC and Texas provided their QB's.
What exactly is he supposed to say when they ask him about Vandy's 11-35 record? "I guess we weren't very good"? The entire point of the story is that he started out behind Young and Leinart because their teams had so much success, which is because they had a lot more good players. The rap sheet business is more of a question from my point of view, but presumably any NFL team is going to do their homework on this guy before they draft him.
Actually, this rap sheet makes him sound like a fun guy to be around: "Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler pleaded guilty to a charge of evading arrest and was sentenced to 24 hours of community service. In addition, Cutler was also charged with vandalizing an emergency telephone on campus September 30, underage drinking and resisting orders to halt, all misdemeanors. However, the other charges were dismissed under the plea agreement and the evading charge will be eliminated from his record if the community service is served by January 21. Cutler was suspended for one game earlier in the season by head coach Bobby Johnson for the incident." So you want to pass on a guy because he stated he didn't play around All-American talent and vandalizes an emegency phone. Look, the guy probably had a few beers and was out partying with his friends. Destroying a phone is not a big deal in my mind. This pales in comparison to the crap Markus Vick is dong. How many of us did funny stupid $hit in college that even bordered on illegal?
Cutler did his part for Vandy last season. He helped them win at Tennessee. He had good games against Florida and South Carolina. Going 5-6 at Vandy is like going 10-1 or 11-0 at a school like Michigan or USC.
