Yesterday's game was the most gratifying, impressive game of the year. I feel better about this team today then I have all year. The god damm Defense is amazing and we are down 2 starters and our # 1 nickel back. They got no help from the offense and still did an amazing job. After yesterday, i am starting to think we could be a # 1 or 2 seed in the AFC. That said, next weeks game is a must, get us back no track, go to 4-1 and have the awful Bill at home. The pats have 2 easy games coming so they are not gonna lose. For those of you that are a Yankee fan like me, is this great or what. 3-1 Jets, Yanks are in the playoffs at home and the Jets play the Dolphins on Monday night next week which happends to be my 50th birthday. The first goal of any jet team is to make it out of Septmenber still in it, secondly stay healthy and in addition we get reinforcements back for the Monday night game with the easier part of the schedule coming up. I break the season up into 4 parts, we are 3-1 in the 1st qtr. of the season, healthy and should be able to go 3-1 on October. I feel great. Don't let the Mike Fancesa's of the world get you down, they just hate the Jets and us fans. Meanwhile, the giants are considered elite while they beat no one. If we beat those teams, people would say the Jets beat no one, just wait and see. Its just the way it is but we knoq better.... at least some of us do.
I agree for the most part. Losing @NO doesn't mean the sky is falling like some would have you believe. The defense was outstanding, and like you mentioned, 2 starters and a nickel were out. Sanchez will have growing pains, this is expected, and hopefully he learns from yesterday. We have no reason to be down on the NYJ today, I see them crushing Miami on national TV.
The loss to NO makes the fish game even more important, I am afraid. These divisional games are always tough, and Miami wasn't all about Chadwick. They have some players even with him out. The Jets have to take this game very seriously, and make Miami pay. A loss to those guys and this place will be a blood bath next Monday.
I think they take every game serious with Rex at the helm. I worry that a let down comes at Oakland after crushing two division opponents. That place has been an abyss for us over the years. Last year the Ravens crushed Miami in the playoffs and effectively exposed the pussycat. Rex will have these guys ready to go. Don't forget the war of words between Channing Duechebag and Ryan in the offseason. The Jets are going to want to kill Henne (a QB making his 2nd start going against a D like this could be a massacre) and make amends for losing yesterday. I don't even see this being close and I am usually cautiously optimistic about the Jets.
While I hate the wall of text look, but over all I love your post here. Sanchez finally thew a stinker out there. Its too bad that it really over shadowed a great game by our defense. 10 points to the Saints who jsut happen to be one of the most well rounded and big play striking offenses in the NFL. After watching David Harris through 4 games I can't belive some fans are still pissed we did not get Brandon Marshall when Denver wanted Harris in return. Harris, now fully healthy, has been a fucking monster for us so far. Our defense is just scary and he is a huge part of that.
I totally agree with the OP. The Jets have not only survived the toughest part of the schedule but they're 3-1 and headed towards a 4 game stretch that should give them some real momentum. You have to ask yourself: which teams left on the schedule are going to beat the Jets, and the answer is - not a lot of them. The only team I see standing in the Jets way right now is the Jets. And I think they'll work that out by the time it becomes critical.
Just had to rub my eyes on the OP. Good to see you feeling better about this team. I think we've all had to adjust our expectations at different points this season. I can't remember being quite this excited about a team since late in the 98 season. 2004 was close, but not like this.
Yes, they have some players, notably their two headed rushing attack. However, we held those two to 47 yards on the ground the first time we met last season and 107 with a banged up Kris Jenkins in the second. There's really no reason why this game should be close other than the divisional factor and Miami's run defense. I'm not expecting a high scoring affair, but a 20 - 3 game wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
As long as we win the ones we are supposed to win we should be ok. The Saints game was there for the taking and imo, if Shotty runs on those 2 3rd down plays we may have pulled it out. That being said, the next couple of games are "no excuse" games. If we don't win the next 4 i'm gonna start to worry.
After years of being Jets fans our goals have become so modest haven't they! But I agree with you entirely. After the Sanchez fumble in the end zone I was waiting for the Jets to collapse and prove it had all been an illusion. They didn't. The defense was inspiring and even Sanchez and the offense bounced back enough to get us back in the game. I think some iffy play-calling (those passes on 3rd-and-1) took a bit of momentum away. If the Jets had got moving on one of those potential game-tying drives it would have been very interesting. A great effort by the team and the defense in particular. Time now to destroy the Dolphins.
Don't get me wrong, I did not predict a fish win. But Miami is not the weakest team in the league, and it seems over the years the games with them can be tougher, and of course the Jets as their opponents have been tougher, despite the record in the standings. We've become comfortable ever since the Pork Faced Satan took over from Shula, not to mention the great years when Wanny dove into the toilet and took the fish with him, of generally winning, even in bad years. But Miami would love to win this game no doubt about it. I would hate to see that happen. I still hate them more than NE. Hate. It feels good. Heh. It will be interesting to see how the Jet running game does. I'd love to see that get on track and not depend on Sanchez to have a big bounce back game. If the Jets stop their run, it should be an easy victory.
You gotta luv the fact that this game was winnable even after being down. BS playcalling took any opportunity to win away from the team. After several years of BS as our OC, I'm used to things like that happening on occasion as he IS a Schottenheimer after all. This team is further down the road than I had thought but like it or not, we're still 2 or 3 players away from being truly elite. With upgrades at WR, DE and RB, we'll be right there with the AFC's elite. I figure one more learning year in the league for Sanchez and he'll be less apt to make rookie mistakes. He'll be fine. From this old Darksider to all of you wherever you are, we're looking good and we're on track back from the dark years of Edwards/Mangini. Enjoy the ride people. Those of us over 40 just might live long enough to see another Jet SB game.. Just my .02
The Jet's chances to win were many and all of them misfired on the offensive side. The other way to look at the 3rd and 1 calls was that Schottenheimer was trying to avoid going into a safety-first shell, the way his dad would have, after the shaky play by Sanchez all day. I give him a pass on those calls because trying to prop up Sanchez confidence and get him rolling was by far the most important element in play. Schotty definitely didn't act like dad on those plays. He took his chances and lumps, but in a good cause.
