Bump to early to Judge but so far Moogey built a horrible defense, signed Stephen's to 3 years 36 million who absolutely sucks. Signed Fields to a 2 year deal who looks like he is going to suck. Failed to cut Clemons who is out there commiting dumb penalties again just like last year. His offensive line today got thrown around like ragdolls by Joey Bosa and no Ed Oliver.
I don't think the talent is that bad. OL is also talented. And even with Fields, he did give us one great game and one shit one, yet we still didn't capitalize on the great game. I agree on Stephens and also we are weak at DE and WR, but I think the talent is there to concede less than 32 ppg. Also, Mooge did bring Pritchett on the roster who had a good camp, and AG picked Gipson. A lot of what is wrong is coaching. We should have won vs Pitt and competed better against the Bills with the talent we have if the coaching was better. Heck, just picking Pritchett over Gipson, like many called for, likely results in a win last week. As of now I do not see Mooge as the biggest issue, the coaching is.
So far seems like a replica of the Joe Douglas/ Saleh error, all they are missing now is the next Zach Wilson.
Fields was one of the better options out there - there are almost never quality QBs available in FA - he is here for 2 years so that is this year which looks like will lead to us drafting a QB in round 1 (again) and then a year while the rookie QB beds in. I am not sure what else they could have realistically done and it would've been very hard to convince any QB to sign a 1 year prove it deal.
Just like anyone else doing a job for the first time, there's gonna be fck ups in the learning phase. Mougey is no different. He'll either learn or he'll be gone as Woody is good for about 3-4 years before he'll pulls the trigger. A VP of Football Ops would spare us all this bullshit but Woody will never hire one or if he did, he'd hire a newbie with zero FO experience.
You're gonna have to bring that up with Woody Johnson.. He has a grudge and can't let the slight pass.
Fields was signed for 2 years, he’s not here for 2 years unless he plays well this season. His contract gives us an easy out after one season, and a cheap option to keep him one more year if he shows promise this year. Fields was a lottery ticket in that maybe it finally clicks for him ala Geno Smith or Sam Darnold, but it’s not very likely and never really was.
People always bash the GM but lets be real, no FA is voluntarily signing with the Jets lmao. He will be judged on if he can hit on the QB.....tick tock....
He’s not off to a great start. You can’t expect to turn over the whole roster in 1 year so he has been stuck with a lot of losers but I’d like to see more from the guys he brought in
The only thing you can even debate this early on Mougey is his first and 2nd round picks. The wuestion is whether the combination of Membou/Taylor is better than Ersery/Warren. This will be the long term debate to watch. Many people were onboard with drafting Warren in the first round. I pointed out that this OT class was extremely deep and that we could land a starter in the 2nd round. The best OT available at our pick in the 2nd was Ersery, who has struggled in his debut but I believe he will a be starter in the league for years to come. While Membou has been solid for us, Taylor has been non existent while Warren is off to a solid debut. I was on the Warren/Ersery bandwagon and still wish we did that instead. I have no doubt Warren will be a stud in the league.
Through two weeks, outside of Membou: Mason Taylor - 2 catches, 25 yards Arian Smith - 1 catch, 8 yards AZ Thomas - 1 tackle Francisco Mauigoa - 4 tackles Tyler Baron - yet to play Malachi Moore - 4 tackles, only after Adams got hurt Yea, two games, but holy shit what a recipe for disaster when everything outside of your day 1 pick has made 0 impact.
Yeah that was a debate for sure and Warren has looked very good so far. But our OL has been a disaster for years. We just needed to fix it finally. Membou was the right choice. As was Olu the year before. Now we have two solid young tackles who will hopefully grow into good then great then pro bowl type guys. We can hope. But at least we have youth and talent there. Now we need talent everywhere else, mostly at QB and WR, but also at DE, CB, LB, etc.
