Jets remain interested and in negotiations with another soon-to-be former Dolphin, DE David Bowens, a pass rushing specialist who's had a productive NFL career. Bowens has also drawn interest from the Titans and Rams, according to a league source, but has told friends he wants to play for the Jets. It's unclear how far apart the two sides are on negotiations. http://www.nypost.com/seven/03092007/sports/jets/jets_ink_miamis_barnes_jets_mark_cannizzaro.htm If it's already posted, sorry....

No offense, but I don't believe any of these writers know what is on the Jets "wish list". Most of their stories are probably pulled from the thoughts on this website and others like it...
same beat writers who be supplying us all ur info this off season? same that said we have interest in Bowens (who we are tryna sign), said we had interest in Coleman (signed), Said we had interest in Duckett (visited yesterday), Barnes (signed. do i need to go on? There beat writers for a reason. the funny part is it wasnt even the jets beat wrieter who reported intrest in columbo. it was the giants beat writer.
We've all been saying these same things since the end of the season. They no longer have any insight to the real thoughts of the team like they did under Herm. Only things they figure out is when a player is visiting via the agents. It's not rocket science....
One connection that Jet fans have overlooked is that his first college position coach was current Jet LB coach Jim Herrman. If anyone knows Bowens talent, its Herrman. Bowens displayed first-round talent as a LB at Michigan. He wwas a rare starter as a true frosh (as was Woodson on the same unit). Bowens was unstoppable rushing he passer from the OLB spot. But that was at a lighter weight...Bowens bulked up to play DE and lost a lot of speed and explosiveness...I think his natural position is OLB. Bowens got booted from UM (along with former Giants CB Will Peterson --now Will James) for various incidents--but namely beating up a student. He transferred to Western Illinois and got a bit lost in the mix and ended up a mid-late round pick.
What are you talking about? What I'm saying is I don't believe the beat writers have any insight to what the FO is thinking. They hear things from agents when a player is visiting and report on it in their blogs. As for knowing what is on their "wish list" they are just speculating the same way we are. They know the weaknesses on the team, and they know who is available. Tannebaum is not calling the beat writers and giving them inside information or anything. And any leaks that are discovered in the front office are quickly eliminated. This is the Parcells/Belichick way of doing things that Mr. T. has learned from, the days of Bradway/Herm are over. Most of the press conferences and such are all available to the public so you can get all the same information they get. IMO, their jobs are not as important as you seem to think, but c'est la vie....
What continues to amaze me is that it still looks like our FO has the occasional "leak," despite tighter security and demands by Mangini and others. I read a lot of reports that are quick to quote "unnamed sources that wish to remain anonymous" because of security, yet continue to shoot off their mouths. I can't figure out who would jeopardize their jobs with the Jets like that, because God help them if/when they're discovered.
I understand that Hydro, but who TF risks his job over blabbing stuff to the media that Mangini obviously doesn't want leaked? Seem pretty damned foolish to me, especially since there really isn't much in it for them. An awful lot of risk for a very small amount of "attention."
The leaks come from the agents of the players that are being recruited. They are unavoidable and you can't really bust the guy - he'll just deny. But it's smart on the agent's part because it gives some other team the chance to call at the last minute with a better offer.
Okay, thanks. That's a MUCH better explanation of where the leaks come from. It pays for the agent to leak stuff because it helps him pimp his client.
Also, if I worked a small time job with the Jets and told a beat reporter I'd give him an anonymous lead for $100, under the table....would that make some sense?
hence the reason there will always be leaks. no reporter or beatwriter is gonna give you up.. especially now were its probably tougher to get a inside source.
So now that the ethics lesson is over, does anyone have any info on Bowens. ? The security guard at Hofstra told me he would be signing today and the contract would be front-loaded with some de-escalators. He said he'd back to me when all the details were worked out. He also mentioned that the Jets are working on a deal that sends McCarins to the Bears for Ulracher and the Bears 1st round pick this year and their 2nd rounder next year.
I don't know who the leaks are but it seems likely that they are holdovers from the old regime. That would cut the number of suspects down some. Since the leaks seem to be about both the offense and the defense but rarely mention the special teams or players who would be acquired as special teams players I think that leaves Westhoff out of the lineup.
I don't know if Colombo is agreat addition....I mean I guess if he is better than Clement and around the same price then why not......but if they had really wanted him when he was here, they could have gotten him to stay. As for the DE from MIami....can we please go after some proven starters? I know Mangini is like Belichick and likes solid team-thinking role players.....but I just wish we had a real impact guy
