Some injuries starting to come in. Hopefully just the regular bumps, bruises and strains and nothing too serious.
No turnovers on offense, Geno looking good, defense wins the 2 minute drill. Not too shabby, that's what you want.
Geno Smith looked good today. I fully expect those that melted down yesterday to anoint him today since yesterday showed were in the business of taking too much stock out of minicamp practices
Just like that time your cheating girlfriend went a whole day without cheating and you anointed her as faithful. This guys got a history, it's going to take a lot before we start to trust him.
Bowles presser: - RE: Antonio Allen usage, didn't have a position last year with Rex Will play safety exclusively. Athletic, runs well, passion for the game, has some swagger. - RE: Pryor Hit Will address that, there were a couple of plays that will be addressed, that was just one of them. - RE: Guards Moving guys around, will know more once they put the pads on. - RE: Conditioning There will be a conditioning test before camp so they better stay in shape or they might lose their spot. - RE: Cro vs Sherman Talked to Cro. Can't focus on the outside stuff, have to work on getting better and winning games. The other stuff doesn't matter. - RE: Tempo in practice Very pleased with tempo. - RE: "Surprise players" (guys that he didn't know about but impressed him) CB Marcus Williams & Darrin Walls showed great instincts, great awareness, consistent.
Hey man! she promised me she would start to be faithful! Just like Geno Smith promises he will start to take care of the football and just like those nice Nigerian royals that emailed me promised they would wire me $1 M U.S. after I sent them my credit card info.Who am I to question them all? Things are looking like they are up too. Geno didn't throw an interception today... my girlfriend is home alone (I think)... just waiting for the Nigerians to wire me that money any moment!
Marcus Williams is a keeper. I'd hate to lose him because they keep Milliner of McDougal if he outplays them because of draft position.
Revis Cromartie Skrine Milliner McDougle Walls Williams = 7 (others that don't stand a chance really) only 6 can stay? only 5 can stay? I'll say I hope they'd cut Walls before Williams. I don't see the possible ceiling in Walls that I do in Williams. It might be a moot point though because its possible both might have to be cut. I don't see them being able to hide Williams on the practice squad though.
He may be below average but our offense ran much smoother once he stepped in for Winters. It's clear that Rex couldn't figure out who the best players were at times so I wouldn't count out aboushi just cuz it took an injury for him to play
I don't think Williams makes it to the practice squad. He played really well for us and guys around the league would definitely bring him in. My secret hope is that we can get a 5th for Walls or at least something to reflect how deep we are at CB
yeah theres no way you can get a Brandon Marshall & a Darrin Walls for the same price point. If theres any trade to be made it will be for a player, another semi-veteran player low on the totem pole somewhere else at a different position. But even that is unlikely I'll bet solid money that Walls finally gets cut this year. Coaches like him because he's a heady kid who is in the right spot but he has horrendous ball skills and is limited physically.
Rex wouldn't do that, but I wouldn't be surprised if he claims him off waivers. Although, with their claim of Matt Simms don't they drop to the bottom of the order? Is that how the NFL works or is that just fantasy football (serious question)? I don't know how waiver order works in NFL after a team makes a claim.
I think that's just a FF thing. The order stays the same for the entire year, so the worst team from last season gets first dibs at every guy that gets released unless they're like 10 year veterans that become UFA immediately without going through waivers.
Wrap Up from NJ.com: 1. Injuries. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall limped off the field near the end of practice and removed his right cleat. "He had a sore toe," Bowles said. "I think he stubbed it." Cornerback Darrin Walls also limped off after defending a pass. Tight end Zach Sudfeld exited practice, limping, after safety Calvin Pryor pushed him down. Bowles didn't have an update on either player. He planned to check on them after his press conference. 2. Too much contact. Bowles wasn't pleased about Pryor (a renowned hard hitter) and a few other players being overzealous with contact Wednesday. These are no-contact, no-pads practices. Players aren't supposed to tackle or hit. So these are essentially two-hand touch workouts. "There were a couple guys who got a little carried away," Bowles said. So it wasn't just Pryor. Bowles added that those are things "we can't have happen" during practice, and "we'll address that." 3. Brent Qvale with the first team. The backup tackle has gotten reps as the first-team right guard in minicamp. Oday Aboushi got most of the reps there during organized team activities. Brian Winters is also getting some reps as the first-team right guard in minicamp. Willie Colon (sore knee) has sat out for team periods so far in minicamp. Qvale getting reps with the starters is a case, right now, of the coaches wanting to give a lot of guys looks before training camp starts. "Some are nicked up, some get the the work, and some hadn't gotten the work and are getting the work now," Bowles said. "We're looking at this as an extension of OTAs. So however many [reps] he didn't get in OTAs, he's getting a shot to get a look now." 4. Bowles doesn't want yapping. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie made headlines last week when he said Darrelle Revis is a better corner than Richard Sherman. Bowles doesn't enjoy seeing his players talking brashly in public like this. So he probably won't be happy when he reads how Cromartie slammed former Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. via Twitter on Wednesday. "Me and Cro talked about it," Bowles said of the Revis-Sherman stuff. "I don't know what happened today, about the Kellen Winslow thing. I'm not on Twitter, Facebook or any of those things. We talked about it [the Revis-Sherman comments]. We're just trying to focus on the team. We didn't win last year, and there's really nothing to talk about, other than us getting better. All the other outside stuff, we don't worry about." 5. Surprises. Who has surprised Bowles in OTAs and minicamp? "I don't know if they're surprise players, [but] guys I didn't know as well, being in a different conference, just consistency-wise, [cornerbacks] Marcus Williams and Walls have been very consistent with their approach," Bowles said. "And they have very good instincts. That just stood out from what I saw during the spring."
