Eisen mentioned that he is 6'6, 295 lb and Brick didn't correct him, so if that is his current height and weight, that's not really that big compared to around the league. I know none of that matters if he is equally strong and good fundamentally, but when you think tackle, you generally think 300+. I remember reading that around the time of the draft he had mentioned in some interviews that he was trying to put on weight and then was seen eating about 2 bites of a prime rib steak at the rookie dinner before pushing his plate away. Now, I certainly don't want to see a 330 lb D'Brickashaw Ferguson in the NFL if his best abilities cannot be displayed at that weight, but over 300 is certainly the norm, and the 312 lb Ferguson that went to the combine is more like it, in my opinion. Here are Brick's height and weight compared to starting tackles around the league: Orlando Pace (Rams): 6'7, 335 Khalif Barnes (Jags): 6'5, 315 Jeff Backus (Lions): 6'5, 305 (comparable) Ryan Diem (Colts): 6'6, 320 Nick Kaczur (Pats, from my HS): 6'4, 319 Tom Ashworth (Seahawks): 6'6, 305 (also comparable)
D'Brick is most likely in the 310 lb range. He probably just didn't feel comfortable correcting Eisen over an innocent mistake.
You may be a little hasty over the fact that dbrick didn't correct him. And even if he is, I'm *pretty* sure Walter Jones is super light for a tackle, meaning weight is not the defining measurable for a great tackle. He's strong, smart, has a ridiculous wingspan and has great feet for a man his size. I value those features above 10 pounds. At the very least, lets see how Dbrick fairs practicing against our Dline. Ellis and Von.O are both bull rushers, so if he struggles vs. them he should know he needs to add a little weight to help bulk up. Until then, all we can do is relax and hope for the best.
Good Point. How much is 10 lbs really if he is superior in other areas? That's what I am hoping for, and expecting.
I don't see 10lbs or so being a problem if he can push the pile and still be fast enough to pass protect.
Ferguson just isn't the kind of kid that would contradict (read show up) a reporter that doesn't have his facts up to date. I would not read too much into it. What I found more interesting in some other articles is how he said there was so much different in the NFL, and how much he had yet to learn.
ferguson was 310, he is probably comfortable being 295 while he hangs out, and will return to 310 soon enough..
jets website is fer the garbagio. Onl;y trues numbers use get will be from the combine...He need to beef it up...maybes he shuolds eat the noodles arm to gains the wait he neededs
If you look at Khalif Barnes he was smaller coming into the league as well, just hovering around 300 lbs. So I really wouldn't be worried.
i dont think he'll stay at 313, honestly. hes maxed out his frame as far as muscle goes. plus once they get in full pads and are running around he'll drop weight. my guess is he'll float around 295-305 unless the strength and conditioning staff can get him to put on some weight permanently. most of his weight at the combine would just be him lifting weights and not playing actual football where cardio finally comes into play.
