If he's there in the 2nd, what do you think about him if we didn't take a CB in the first? I think he could develop into a very solid #2 opposite of Revis. He is also a special teams demon so he will immediately contribute in a big way there before stepping into a starting role in the secondary.

That would be a solid pick. He's a top five corner on my rankings...

I'd love to hear Hurricane's thoughts on this - he's been a big time McCourty supporter for a long time now.

I think he brings to the table a lot of the same things as Revis does, although I don't think anyone touches Revis' recovery speed. It's always good to have corners who can tackle as well as cover. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit disappointed if we drafted him.

What I can recall about McCourty, he's an excellent special team player and has blocked a few kicks/punts at Rutgers. I remember seeing Devin block a kick on a National televised game...at least I got the game in Columbus. I believe he's been Rutger's leading tackler the last few seasons. A solid CB with good football instincts that could develop into a solid #2 NFL CB.

I was really down on 2010's CB class, recently a handful of CBs have made big strides improving their draft status.

McCourty would be an ideal selection if he's there in round 2. He's fast and physical with good size and is both a terrific and willing tackler. He's great on special teams in many different ways, and is a natural leader. I love the kid, and would be elated to see him on the Jets. What X said about him having a lot of the same skills as Revis is dead on, he's a perfect fit.

I will say don't be shocked to see him go even higher after workouts, his twin brother Jason put up a 4.3 at the RU pro day a year ago.

Devin McCourty is the x-factor in this cornerback class. If runs well, he could pass Perrish Cox and Kyle Wilson and become the second corner drafted...but the thing is, Wilson and Cox have wheels too.

I'm really getting excited for this combine, because a lot of the positions are so closely rated.

Recent Rutgers players have had success translating to the NFL.

I saw that. Interesting to say the least, since he has him as the 3rd CB off the board after Haden and Wilson, but he seems to agree that McCourty's stock is going to soar after the combine.

I'd love the pick if we traded back and took him.

Honestly, I don't think we need to trade back to get him. If he's there at 29, we should take him. No point running the risk of moving back a couple spots just for the sake of him. If you like him at 35, why not take him at 29 if he's there?

mmm... because we need picks and CB is deep in this draft?

Haden, Wilson, McCourty, Ghee, Warren, Franks, Cox, maaaybe Jackson are all corners I'd like to have on this team as #2 CBs... and I'd be ok with drafting any of them at some point through rd 2. I'm sure if we trade back in the first 10 picks of the 2nd round one between Wilson, McCourty, Ghee, Warren and Cox will be available... more than one actually. Ghee, Franks and Jackson could actually fall all the way to our original 2nd round pick.

I would actually like to walk out of this draft with 2 CBs because even in the lower rounds there's sooo much depth!

PS I must point out that in our 3rd mock draft I selected McCourty for the Lions (in rd 3, steal!) and he is part of my sig... I really like the player! But there's no point in reaching in a draft with sooo much potential in positions of need.

I'll just repeat, Devin is a nasty, nasty football player. I don't know what's going to boost his stock more, workouts or his interviews. Teams are going to love him, and I guarantee Rex, Mikey T, and the Jets will be one of those teams.

McCourty could be available when we pick in the second. Plus, he's local.

Anyone else find it funny that his twin brother went into the NFL a year before him? I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation (wanted to stay another year, boost his stock) but it seems odd to me.

Tiki and Ronde came out in the same year.

Devin red-shirted as a freshman. Completely reasonable. Devin's been better than his brother since they began starting together 3 years ago when Devin wasa RS Soph.

If we cannot pick Wilson in the first I would be happy taking McCourty in the second.

Can someone give some more details about McCourty's abilities?

So far I know his "stock is high" and his recovery speed is less than Revis'.

    Jumping? Tackling? Pass Def? Ints?
    Special teams abilities?

I would love to draft two DBs as well, but unfortunately as of now we do not have that luxury....I really hope we get more picks!
