We're fine. 1-2 weeks won't kill us, and I can live with Leon Washington and Danny Ware as our backup backs, and the 2 FBs.
Absolutely Yes... We have a veteran RB who has proven he can last a full season being the #1 RB on a team and he has experience in big games including the superbowl. We have a speed tail back backing him up who is young and can provide the big play at anytime. He has also proven the ability to carry the full load from time to time.
If Jones is okay and game-ready week 1, then we're just fine. If this injury is worse than we're being told (and let's be honest, the office of the Penguin is not very forthcoming with acurate information,) then we're in trouble. Leon is a nice option, but is not a feature back.
The more I hear about the calf muscle being the injury (and not the high ankle sprain), the more optimistic I become. The other night, Danny Ware had 12 carries for 48 yards, but 26 of those yards came on one play. So, doing the math (48-26), that means he had only 22 yards on the other 11 plays, or only 2 ypc. This doesn't exactly entice me enough to say we're "set" at RB with him supposedly being the official #3. His camp has been good, though, and he did get significant yards per carry in college. And we do have the FBs too. So, overall, I guess we're as "set" as we're gonna be, but any more injuries to Jones during the season will give me butterflies for sure. I love Leon, but he ain't gonna be the answer, not by himself.
I agree. I kept waiting for him to eat up some big yards on the following plays but he was just barely getting to the line on most of them. The Big runs are nice, but I'd rather see alot of 4 to 6 yard runs instead of a 20+ run and alot of 1 to 2 yard plays. Still, we should be fine once TJ is back. He and Leon will have the bulk of the runs anyway.
I whole heartedly agree with the rest of you guys in the fact that we are indeed set at RB. Thank God it's only Jones' calf; I'd be a lot more worried if it was confirmed as an high / ankle sprain. Regarding Ware, it goes hand in hand but it's pretty tough when you have a line that's out of sync from adjusting to the JETS offense and trying to just make the team. If he's in on the first squad it could be a whole different story. And if he was in at all with the first team and I didn't realize it, feel lfree to remove my foot from my mouth.
Are you going to start anymore threads about topics that have been discussed countless times before? And to answer the question. Yes, we are set. Just because Jones tweaked his calf doesn't mean it's the end of the world. Hell, we made it to the playoffs with Leon last year, so what's the worry if he has to start again?
I'd feel a lot better if Cedric Houston hadn't pulled out b/c I think he would have been our solid #2 every down back, especially now that Jones won't be playing for the next several weeks and Houston would have gotten a lot of work. But yeah, we can just run the hell out of Ware and Banks now and see what we've got.
If Jones is out for a long time, then I'm not sure that we are, but I wouldn't rush to make a move. We have 2 very good backs, and Ware and Hollings and even Smith are respectable enough. I'm sure either one could do what Houston would have done. You can't expect to have perfect depth everywhere, and the only way we're not set at RB is if Leon and TJ are both hurt. If your top 2 players at a position are hurt, you're pretty screwed there no matter what.
He wants 5 years? I hadn't heard. How come we just don't give it to him? (Just kidding buddy)....:breakdance:
