I haven't seen the Bengals much this year - anyone know if the screen pass is a staple there? Screens are effective against agressive, blitzing Ds. I don't recall them running any last week (although they ran only the most basic of pass plays in that game) but I was thinking we may see some tomorrow. I haven't heard any radio/news guys mention this. Thoughts?
i don't really thing they have an good personnel to run a good screen pass. not really fast WR's or RBs.
Yes and the one I clearly remember Harris had read perfectly and was in position to make a tackle yet Larry Johnson dropped the pass. Not sure how good a reciever Benson is out of the backfield.
I can't imagine him that good as a big powerful runner. He had 17 catches this year, 20 the year before.
Houshmanzadeh used to be their "go-to guy" on screen plays.....I don't think they effectively replaced him this season.
Now that you mentioned that, yes, I do recall balls being batted down. I should've been more specific, I was actually referring to a RB screen (middle of the field), not the quick out to a WR. With the speed of the Jets blitz, it would seem like a good idea to just drop a few over their heads after the rushers are let in.
I think everyone understood you perfectly. What is being said is the WRs have a better chance at a screen than Benson or Johnson.
They don't really run the screen... I had benson in a Fantasy League and the guy never catches passes.. and really the entire passing game relies on chad "I'll change my name back to Johnson if Revis shuts me down" ochocinco and he is not a screen threat
exactly...Benson is a typical downhill runner....I don't think he sees a lot of screen passes come his way.
That's what I wanted to know, thanks. We all know our fantasy players pretty well! I agree that Benson doesn't really fit the mold of a quick screen RB, but you never know, I'd give it a shot if I were the Bengals, epecially since it doesn't appear to be on much film.
They don't have the WRs or running backs to run the screen. Anyway, if Strickland comes back for this game he'd be the perfect player to shut down the screen. That was our biggest defensive problem against New England and why Welker was able to run around the field so much on short passes and screens. Strickland does a great job of reading and attacking screen passes which was the reason Ryan and Tanny targeted him in free agency.
