The hate for Fitzpatrick is over the top. He is what he is, a journeyman QB jag who is signed for 1 year. He sucks, but getting rid of Fitzpatrick does not solve the Jets problems. There are many, many problems, of which he is one, but not the bigger one. Sure, get a top 10 QB it masks a lot of problems, but those guys don't just grow on trees. Last year was an aberration based on a very easy schedule, and a lot of good fortune which they took advantage of. But this team is 2 years removed from a terrible team, with years and years of awful drafting and worse player development. We passed on Carr and Bridgewater after seeing how bad Geno was! Most of our talent is on the DL which is blatantly held in every game with no calls. We have a lot of age at OL and not a lot of depth. A lot of youth (which looks promising) at WR for a change, but its all very young Our secondary sucks, which is what happens when you miss on the number 9 overall pick at the CB position and take a mediocre guy in Pryor. Even Macc's drafting looks highly suspect. Williams looks like a stud, and he found some young WR's, but overall his drafting has not been a slam dunk. There are so many problems that will take years of solid drafting and player development, OR, getting stupid lucky at the QB position, to fix. Benching and cutting Fitzpatrick is not going to do it. He is an easy target, but we as fans need to be more intelligent than we are being.
The season is lost, we need to see if Bryce Petty is worth a fucking damn here or Hackenberg for that matter. Fitztragic is not coming back next year
I think most guys are smart enough to know what is wrong with this team, some of us are just having fun with it as well. It has not been as toxic as I remember, it used to get nasty before, like a pride of lions turning on each other at a buffalo kill. Could be that fans have just accepted the season for what it is and are trying to just get through it by analyzing and offering solutions to the problems we see. Im just disappointed that it happened so early.
Highly suspect is a bit strong. His first round picks have been excellent; Leo is going to be better than Mo or Sheldon ( he's outplaying both of them this season already imo) and Lee was developing decently before he got hit with his ankle injury, and is the faster-type linebacker we've needed for a while. His second round picks have been ??? - D. Smith got hit with multiple injuries despite not having a particularly injury-prone history, we haven't seen Hackenburg yet, though admittedly I don't like the Hack pick - though I might start to if Petty doesn't show us some goods once he gets inevitably slotted in post-bye-week. Maudlin and Jenkins have been decent contributors for 3rd round players, and he's gotten comparatively a lot out of low-round guys and UFAs - look at our WR corps for examples.
Maybe Jerry Jones will get tired of the Cowboys and buy the Jets... Ah yeah right lol Pardon me while I cook 7 weeks of comfort food boo hoo sob sob
We are back where we were in 2012. An undisciplined team of high-priced, selfish veterans playing out the string for a paycheck. The billboard crowd will never tolerate losing badly enough to fully allow for the development of young talent, and our owner is too weak to stick with a long-term development plan. As a result, we are seldom good enough to compete with the top teams and seldom bad enough to get top 5 draft picks. Expect continued mediocrity.
Are you wondering whether you root for a quality franchise? We can help! Just answer this simple questionnaire. 1) Does your team have a "billboard crowd"? Did you answer No? Good start! Move on to question two. Did you answer Yes? Sorry, your team is not a quality franchise. 2) ...
Needs- 1 QB- bye bye Shitz, you fuckin' suck, play the kid 2 Coach- terrible, play the kid moron 3 LB's- can't cover any TE or RB 4 Safeties- can't cover any TE 5 CB's- trounced weekly 6 Oline help
The immediate issue is Coaching a team that has a dearth of talent. The drafts prior to MAC were absolutely abysmal and its shows on the OL, LB, CB, S, RB, QB, etc. IMHO and I truly hope I am wrong, this HC has lalready lost this team. it is evident by the play and now the reports of team starting to come apart. Like Nero fiddling TB says he still has control, I say no coach you don't not when players fail to report for meeting, argue on the sidelines, make stupid penalties, play free wheeling undisciplined FB, I say HELL NO coach you do not. Sorry to say fellas but its time for a change...
I agree with the rest of your post, but not your comment regarding Fitz. He has been a HUGE part of the problem. He has shown no improvement, no leadership, and is killing the offense (and team) with his lack of accuracy and TOs.
I agree with you on Fitzpatrick, but also agree with the OP (nice to have it both ways.) Because of who Fitzpatrick is, it's not reasonable to expect improvement. Consistency from the level shown last year is what could be expected and what's missing. Sometimes you have to give credit to opposing DC's in their ability to diagnose a QB's weakness and capitalize on it. Fitz we know has weaknesses, but what separates the "greats" from the "also rans" is the ability to make adjustments and we're not getting that with him.
When I said "improvements" I meant playing with the consistency he did last year during our late season winning streak. Last season we were led to believe that Fitz was this super smart QB who read Ds quickly and usually made good decisions. That has been shown to be a lie. He gets rid of the ball quickly because he doesn't read the D. He makes a decision before the snap where he is going with the ball and then throws it regardless if there is double or triple coverage, the receiver fell down, or whatever. He doesn't go through progressions. It is also becoming more and more apparent that the Jets eschew certain routes because he can't throw them and it limits our offense, and helps opposing Ds because they know that they don't have to worry about those routes. IMO the very reason to bench Fitz is that we can't expect any improvement from him. He is what he is. He isn't the future here, and we need to develop/groom Petty and/or Hack. Therefore, imo, Fitz should never take another snap for the Jets unless the unthinkable happens and both Petty and Hack go down with injuries during the remainder of the season. Even then, I think I'd rather Bilal Powell or a street FA pickup play QB rather than Fitz.
If you insist. All I meant was that if you have fans bitching on billboards, your team likely sucks ass.
