Wow, when did pre-season have such a huge impact on the media and fans? This has become so over the top and I am not sure if the season started and I missed something. How come when other teams put in a new offense, they get some leeway? How come when other teams lose their # 1 receiver and two other receivers go down, the team gets a break until they come back? If anyone thinks are offense is gonna play like this in the regular season, then you have been drinking the Gary Myers juice. I have not changed my mind one bit about this team because of 2 pre-season games. I will let the season play out. Talk radio and competition for who is stupid enough to buy a newspaper has made NY the stupid capital of the sports world. Its embarassing. Don't come back here Monday morning all pumped up if the Jets score a couple of TD's and win big. Don't you dare!!!!!!!!!
I suspect it has more to do with seeing issues that were issues last season. I would not fret much over preseason but I think people want to see some signs that last years issues are not still haunting the team. The real test will be when the season starts. That said - it is a new offense so there will probably be some growing pains.
I agree in that I have never ever seen such negativity based on preseason. When we were on hard knocks 2 years ago we sucked in preseason yet made it to the AFC Championship. That said, my observations are are offensive line is much weaker then it has been, our receiving corp is the weakest it's been in a while, our running backs are all question marks. Hope Im pleasantly surprised and wrong
This is true, its only pre-season and who really cares. Its a time to see new players and get the rust off. But what my eyes are seeing and not reading in papers and hearing on the radio does not look good for this offensive unit. Besides that your right there are growing pains. Lets see what happens in the next game. Go Jets
If preseason was only to parade around in uniforms and have fun, I'd agree with the OP. Unfortunately, the Jets don't have the luxury of just having fun as they have far too many things wrong that need to be worked on. Particularly on offense. Factor in a new system and OC and you've pretty much taken the summer vacation out of the preseason and turned it into the first day of school as far as Sparano's system is concerned. All of this supposed "secret" offense won't mean shit if when its unveiled, it doesn't work. Why? Because we've never tried it in a real game situation. So yeah, the preseason is important to a team that only has 1 SB, several AFCCG losses and a prior 8-8 season to hang its helmet on.
Careful, they'll call you a SOJF. I agree, if ya have something, show it. Let the team know last year was just that...last year. If we come out again with the same shit on offense, the team will react much like they did last year. I'm not buying Rex as a vanilla type guy, he's all or nothing. The defense showed up, no one told them to play soft.
Playing vanilla on offense and defense is completely different especially when our defense is playing against a vanilla offense.
It is because with this team there is no difference between reg season and preseason. When was the last time you saw a Jets preseason not be a very accurate prediction for the reg season? In the 2 years we went to the AFC Championship we knew from what we saw in the preseason that the D would be better than the O but that the D would lack a consistent pass rush and would be susceptible to passes over the middle....and both were true. Last year the protection in the preseason was mediocre and so was Sanchez and the run game was not the strngth it was supposed to be, and we dealt with that all season. So this year the first team hase come out in 2 preseason games and nothing has changed. Why would anyone react any differently than they have? Let's be realistic and call a spade a spade instead of turning a blind eye to the obvious because of some blind allegiance.
You do realize the offense has much more to hide than the defense in preseason, right? There's only so many different looks a defense can throw you. In particular a Rex Ryan defense, which everyone knows is blitz-heavy and mostly driven by scheming in the secondary. Rex has nothing to lose by going all-out with his defense. The offense, however, has very little room for error.
The fundamentals aren't there...that's why everyone is panicking. Vanilla offense should be completely solid. It's not happening at this point. 1 more preseaon game to go right....The final preseason game is usually no starters.
I think it's because of how badly last season ended. Fans are human, they want to see something tangible that gives them hope. The first two weeks just reinforced their negative feelings. The Jets need a good effort in the 3rd preseason game, which is basically the dress rehearsal for the season. They need to be able to execute the basics, because I think Rex and Sparano do have the right idea not showing too much of any of their more exotic plays they hope to run with Tebow. But they should put one play in the plan for this week, maybe not one of the home run hitters they might think they have, but one neat alignment just to make teams have to start thinking alot about it before they play, and maybe get the fans a little more stoked. I do think that if the offense continues to struggle with Sanchez, that going to the option offense with Tebow which eats alot of clock and keeps the score and possessions down, and have the D do the heavy lifting may be their best option.
i think if it was a matter of a few missed executions and timing issues this would be a non convo. however what we are seeing is a fundamental failure on our oline and a glaring hole off the right edge. that is cause for concern because we saw this play out last year.... granted, if holmes/kerley were playing this might look better but fact is they haven't. the oline particularly the RT position is a glaring concern that won't suddenly fix itself come week 1. the jets are going against some elite edge rushers this year, so considering our blocker on the edge is absolute garbage, it's hard to just say its only preseason. with that said, I don't think WFH is the starter come week 1 and i do very much believe that when he's replaced much of this will resolve itself. i dont think all is lost, but i think the jets need to make a move before week 1.
Hog wash. This team has something to prove to themselves, something left over from last year... that they don't suck. I could care less about the preseason record, but Rex should have made sure the team knows they can move the ball, they can score points. Vanilla or not, they manage 6 points in 3 quarters of football with a shit ton of sacks already on our starting QB. We're not going to "surprise" anyone with our offense, to hold something back is foolish on our part. Get these guys some confidence on offense, as Rex always says, This is what we're gonna do, try and stop us.
right, and you prove that in the regular season....you don't win a trophy or a pat on the back in preseason. with that said, preseason has revealed/reaffirmed some glaring holes which make no mistake will be addressed in some fashion come opening day. im positive of this because i fully believe if tanny does nothing to address RT he will lose his job after this season...
that's fair...I'm far from impressed either...but i have to keep it in perspective.. in reality, this is clearly due to the RT position on offense and our top WR being out paired w/ lack of WR depth. Come week 1 I am rather confident we will have a new RT and a nice add to the WR group. If not via trade it will happen around 9/1 when teams cut down their rosters. Sit tight everyone, the roster isn't set yet.
I recall seeing Pennington getting shelled against Vikings D in a preseason game. We all said "It's but a preseason game." Jets ended up 4-12 that year.
You're right - it's just preseason and some of us, including myself, have drawn too many conclusions from these games. Just enjoy watching the games and don't take it very seriously. It's just entertainment.
With 3 out of 4 receivers out, what did you really expect? The Jets to come out throwing deep shots right out of the cage, putting up 21 points and running over one of the best d lines in the league with our mediocre oline? RT is pretty much my only concern on offense. Everything else we can fix and work around.
