We're getting closer to the home opener with the Pats and I dectect a general concensus from our board that we're going to get our ass handed to us. I for one don't agree with this opinion, I will list my reasons in another thread. However I'd like to know your thoughts on what you consider our greatest wins when we were expected to be well beaten- 10 to 20 point underdogs as a rule of thumb. I'll start since it's my thread. 1. Superbowl 111. Still regarded as one of the biggest upsets in sport. (I don't think some appreciate the magnitude of that win and the odds we overcame.) 2. Jets crushing the Pats at the razor in Decemer 2002 Monday night game- Penny was fantastic and was the catalyst to our winning the division from under the noses of the Pats and Fish.
We were big underdogs (and eventually we lost the game), but when we pasted the Ravens "best NFL defense ever" for 517 yards on the last game of the year, ruining thier "Best D Ever" claim (hahahahah). We sucked that year so it was really fun watching us destroy the "best d ever", at least for 3 quaters. Note: The G-men tried to use our same 5-wide game plan against the Ravens a few weeks later in the SB and got killed.
We aren't going to get killed by the Pats their best player is likely to be either out or very limited. I expect us to be right in that game and if Pennington shows some balls early and throws up the field before the Pats get on the board we might actually stay in the game with a shot to win. The Pats D is highly over rated at this point and you take Seymour out and we should be able to score points on them. Maroney is also coming off a bad injury and who knows how he will be when the entire running load falls to him?
I don't think that was an underdog victory. We were supposed to win that game.....just not by THAT much.
Love it! The story told by Philbin, Maynard and Joe through "America's Game" made me cry. Fantastic story.
To me that was one of the worst losses that I can really remember feeling like the world just came to an end! We jumped all over them and then did the Typical Jets thing buy letting them win the thing with like 6 first downs. That was a Magical year that ended on an unimaginable slide!
The "Dynasty" is over the unwind may be slow but so is the Chinese water torture. I feel for you, it's sad knowing that a good fan like you has seen it's teams best days out the rear view mirror. The Jets may not be as good as the Pats right now but at least we are a team on the upswing with tomorrows franchise QB on today's roster.
Not football, but I would say USA beating USSR in hockey at the 1980 Olympics would be the all-time #1.
I think we're going to put a lot of pressure on Vinny--get him on the run and force him into some bad decisions. Advantage Jets.
