I just went back a rewatched the game and I have to say, that on the whole, the Jets played a great game. You can nitpick a play here or there and say that's the reason we lost, but the bottom line is that Peyton Manning is great and made some sensational plays on the last 2 drives. He was gonna find a way to beat us. Considering the players we have, it is hard to imagine them playing any better than that. The biggest issues on this team are not ones that can be immediately fixed. You've got a o-line that needs experience and another player or two. You've got a d-line that doesn't have the ideal personnel for a 3-4 defense (although D-Rob played better than usual this week). There is no legitimate number 1 RB (I like both Houston and Washington, but neither is the long term answer). I know a lot of folks are pissed about the loss and others are busy counting wins to get us into the playoffs. Neither is very productive. There is plenty to be optimistic about: A creative coaching staff, some developing playmakers (Rhodes, Cotchery, Washington, B. Smith, Miller), and a front office that seems to know what it is doing. Everyone needs to just relax and enjoy the ride. The playoffs (and God willing, the SB) will come, but for now we've got a hell of an entertaining team to watch, that is gonna leave everything out on the field. DbJ
As much as it sucks to admit, Peyton is a special player, and unfortunately, our defense just isn't good enough to stop such a talented offense in a see-saw type game. I agree with you completely and wish that all the emotional BS banter that's going on would abate -- just for a one week. That would be really nice. I'm excited for the Jacksonville game.
Best post this week. That's exactly how I feel. The whole entertaining team, new/creative coaching staff, healthy QB (knock on wood), etc... It's enough to keep be obsessive and busy for a while. I watched the game in its entirety also. I saw a very productive offense (post 1st Quarter), and a very counter-productive defense. It would have been nice to see a turnover in favor of our D; although we did see a gratifying special teams (for the most part). Like you said, we do need to enjoy the ride, as the main topic of this offseason was "rebuilding." I am fairly certain, however, that just as this team has gone down fighting in both losses, they will until the end of the season is over... and if we're good enough for a post-season game, most of us would be extra DAMN proud.
Great post. I feel the same way. I never dreamed they'd be playing like this so soon. This team looks like no other Jet team we've seen in recent years, and that in itself is something to be happy about. A real coaching staff that holds everyone accountable. We''ll be contenders sooner than we thought.
