Not going to make a guarantee this week because well, then it just isn't as fun. But here's how the Jets beat the Packers. 1) RUN RUN RUN early and often. Pound Breece. Win TOP and keep Arod off the field as best we can. This is a frustrated team and the crowd will be foaming at the first whistle. We need to put the crowd to sleep early and compound the Packers teams frustration. I have no doubt the Packers are going to want to come out firing and pull away as fast as possible. We can't let that happen. If I'm Saleh and if we win the toss I am 100% receiving this week. The Jets offense matchups up quite well with the Packers defense. It's up to LaFluer and having the right gameplan here. While we always should want to jump out to a fast lead, I think this game will be more about keeping Packers off the field and breaking them mentally. 2) Have a feeling this game is going to be a big test for Zach especially in the second half. The Packers will dare him to beat them and there will be a point in the game where he will have to deliver. The better job we do establishing the run and creating effective use of play action the better positioned he will be. I think he's ready to make that play. On this note we need Elijah to show up this week, and more specifically the Jets to do a better job scheming him into the gameplan. This is a game where Elijah will be the key and we should dial back CD a bit outside of the redzone. 3) Try to create as many coverage sacks as possible. If we blitz too often and Arod shakes free it will be a problem. Also can't have their RBs beating us over the middle on third down extending drives. This will be especially critical in this game. And finally, the Jets have to continue to believe they belong. With that comes less after the play personal fouls and avoidable penalties which we did we progress in a positive direction last week. This is a young team who will likely be extra juiced coming off 2 wins, and running out of the tunnel in Lambeau staring at Arod on the other sideline. They have to be sure to channel that energy effectively. This is Saleh's job all week. If the Jets win this game the entire outlook of the season changes. This game is potentially a massive turning point for this franchise. We got this boys.
The packers are 21st in run defense so yeah, we gotta establish the run. On defense we gotta pressure Rodgers. He has been pretty bad under pressure this season.
The Jets MUST stop the run early. If Jones and Dillon get going, Rodgers and the play action will absolutely carve them up.
Agree they need to get the running game going, but simply plowing into the line for a yard or two isn't going to get it. They need to do some more jet sweeps to stretch the LOS so they can get those gaps for the more "traditional" runs. And Moore absolutely has to be used more this week in short crossing routes to keep their LBs from jamming up the running game. On defense they have to somehow find a new gear in the pass rush. They can't rely on the secondary to shut Rodgers down - he's going to get almost every PI call that's even close at home (unlike us!) - especially with our younger, more aggressive secondary. This is a really tall order.
Absolutely stop the run. The Packers current crop of WR’s don’t scare me. Lazard, Doubs and Cobb should be easy work for these corners. Stop Jones and Dillon…establish Carter and Hall, win.
Rodgers has always hated getting hit (not that any quarterback likes it) but the last 3-4 he’s been actively sissying out of throws to avoid getting hit and avoid getting hit hard. The Giants were roughing him up in the second half and they stopped them.
Roadmap for a Jet victory 1- Offense: Establish a strong running game 2- Defense: Stop the run and force them to throw 3- Win the turn over battle
Great post! I wholeheartedly agree! I think Zach will ace the test. Wouldn't it be something if the game turned into a passing duel, and Zach outdueled Rodgers and the Jets win 42-35? That said, I hope the Jets will be able to run the ball and not have to try to outduel Rodgers. The key is as you said: getting the lead early, taking the crowd out of the game, and keeping Rodgers off the field. Both Moore and G. Wilson need to become more involved in the offense as well as Uzomah. GB will likely be keying on Davis and Conklin. The Jets' offense absolutely needs to get both Moore and G. Wilson more involved and the ball in their hands more often.
Both Moore and G. Wilson need to become more involved in the offense as well as Uzomah. GB will likely be keying on Davis and Conklin. The Jets' offense absolutely needs to get both Moore and G. Wilson more involved and the ball in their hands more often. There is only 1 football. 2 running backs with excellent hands, Davis and even Berrios. These guys were responsible for how many points last week? What does it matter who gets the touches as long as we march down the field.
I realize that there is only 1 football. IMO it matters because G. Wilson and Moore are our two most talented WRs and they can be here long term with Zach. Ultimately, I believe it is those three who will help the Jets achieve success and then maintain it. RBs don't have that long a career usually. Hall had a lot of carries in college. He may only be good for one contract. With that said, I like spreading the ball around to keep opposing defenses off balance. I think everyone should be involved. That was one of the things I loved about Buck Showalter when he was manager of the Yankees. Every player on the roster/bench was given an opportunity to contribute, and more often than not, they did. We do have a lot of playmakers now. Berrios, Hall, MC, Conklin, Davis, and Uzomah will still get their touches, but I think we need to get the ball in the hands of our two most dangerous weapons (with Hall perhaps #3) more often than not. If you disagree, fine. That's what makes life interesting.
Its not that i disagree. Its that game conditions should determine who gets the ball, rather than forcing it to certain players. I think both Wilson and Moore are long term stars, no doubt. But if the open guy is someone else, great.
OK, sorry if I misunderstood. I agree about not forcing the ball to someone. I also agree that game conditions should have some effect on the play calling. That said, both are consistently open. Flacco either didn't have time to find them or didn't see them when they were open. I'm hoping that Zach will. I don't want him to become the checkdown King, and getting the ball out of his hands quickly to be the most important aspect of his game. I want him to keep his ability to sustain plays, create, and make big plays. Moore has been running a lot of deep routes. If Zach can hit him on several of those, it will open things up underneath and also help the rushing attack. Quick scores may not give the D much time to rest, but they put a lot of pressure on the opposing offense, and can cause them to abandon the rushing attack and pass more, which should play into our strengths and lead to some TOs and sacks.
Jets rarely blitz anyway, I doubt they will more than a handful of times Sunday - all about when they blitz. Like the first play w sauce was perfect
