It's things like this and many other things he says that make me think he is a great motivator and very good judge of talent. A guy that can truly get the most out of the talent surrounding him. A guy that will surround himself with other great coaches. From there, it's up to Mac to get Westy the talent that he needs to be successful......

That ship has already sailed, I would have loved to see Westhoff after they fired Mangini, but didn't happen, still think he would've been a great HC

He still believes he can coach this football team and has mentioned words to that effect recently.......

I love Westhoff like most Jet fans.

But I still want a coach with Head Coaching experience.

    Superbowl winning coaches.
Kubiak hired by Denver after HC experience with Texans.
Belicheck hired by Pats after HC experience with Browns
Carroll hired by Seattle after HC experience with Jets, Pats and USC
Coughlin hired by Giants after HC experience with Jags
Dungy hired by Colts after HC experience with Bucs
Gruden hired by Bucs after HC experience with Raiders
Vermeil hired by Rams after HC experience with Eagles and UCLA
Shanahan hired by Denver after HC experience with Raiders

Also include Parcells, Switzer, Johnson, Seifert, and Walsh who all College HC experience.

No more on the job training.

But whos out there?Heres a list just going off the top of my head.

Tom Coughlin-To old but id rather him then Bowles.

Mike Mcarthy -Could be out in Green Bay would give him a blank check.

Sean Payton-Another name to watch on black Monday

Jim Hardbaugh-If im Woody id offer him a blank check ,but we may have to wait a few more years to have a chance at him.

    Mike Shannahan-No thanks

Gruden,Cower,Billick-Not leaving there easy low pressure high paying jobs.

Lovie Smith-Made it to the Superbowl and an NFC title game but has faded into oblivion.

    Did i forget anyone?

    Josh McDaniels.

Yes, no Pats co-ordinator has been a successful HC. But the only ones who have really tried are DCs - Mangini, Crennel - and Hoodie clearly looms over that defense. Offensively I think Josh has had a much more free hand to build some really awesome offenses. And yes, he has Brady - but so what? Indy has sucked _with_ Luck, and the Packers have a real chance of a losing season this year (!!!). Coaching matters.

He actually checks a lot of boxes for me - previous HC experience (made his mistakes somewhere else), offensive mindset, clearly has control of his players and his part of the team. Of course he could be a total flameout - but what option really looks obviously better at this point?

    Westhoff is kinda old, no?

From the list above, I don't think the Jets job would be very attractive to many of them. I wouldn't mind Josh McDaniels at all but I don't think he'd come here. Seems to realize that he has it good in NE and can afford to be patient and wait for the right opportunity.

BTW- I really don't get why so many fans are ready to can Bowles but are fine with McCagnan. What has Mac done to earn your faith? IMO - the 2 drafts have been mediocre to abysmal with some really questionable picks in the early rounds. For the record, I hated the Hackenberg pick and still do.

Actually 68, and I could hope to look as good as he does at his age. Quite frankly I think his age is irrelevant. Ronald Reagan became the president of this country at age 69 and 11 months. IMO, a much bigger job than coaching a football team. Reagan is also widely regarded as one of the best republican presidents to ever hold office...

Well, this is a very compelling argument. Certainly much better than all the nonsense posts coming from all the rest in this thread? I am not opposed to hiring an experienced HC, in fact I have argued for it in the past. I just think if Woody insists on going with an inexperienced HC, there's no one more qualified than Mike Westhoff...........

ANYONE could utilize Darron Lee better than Todd Bowles. He's not without uses. I'd argue he'd be an excellent Safety for us? What about switching the defense to 4-3 exclusively as Mike Westhoff has already argued in the past?
