I really hate this situation, and I wish the lockout would end so we can end this problem. Hopefully Sanchez will rework his contract, I really hope we can bring Edwards, Holmes, and Cromartie back somehow
let me be the offseason boner killer here. take anything Holmes says with a grain of salt. about 8 weeks ago the guy said open market best contract. now the labor talks are close and an "anonymous source" leak like this is usually just in good faith to start negotiations with the jets right before driving up the price. least thats my take. ill believe it when i see it. oh and Edwards over Holmes. I dont think I feel too good about Cotchery being the only reciever over 6 ft on the team if we lose Edwards. and I dont mean this in a SD fans playoff game analysis tone. I mean larger targets larger margin of error for Sanchez ball placement. which is why i think he and Braylon go together so well. if thats the case Sanchez better get his accuracy way the fuck up. I think Cromartie is underrated by jets fans, but if we could keep Holmes and Edwards id tell him to hit the road in a second. especially if the staff has as much faith in Wilson as they say. Rex can rebuild the defense, thats a given. having the trio of Edwards/Holmes/Cotch will do Mark Sanchez, and in turn this team as a whole alot better. and not for nothing but previously mentioned Sanchez re-working his contract and adding in performance bonuses would go a long way. dont see it happening tho
I dunno, i might be talkin out my ass a little, but my gut feeling about last season between Holmes and Braylon was that Holmes had a little right place right time goin on with his catches. Meaning his catches, while impressive, just carried more weight than those that Braylon made. However Edwards caught passes that i didnt think he was gonna catch, just seemed like he was on a mission. I like that mentality and think if hes given the chance to come back hell still have it and "breakout." Hearing Rex talk about 'Tone Time still gives me chills though...Whatever, In Rex we trust.
Edwards over Holmes Of course Holmes has a huge upside, but I think Edwards is a better fit and deserves it more
Near the beginning of the lockout, I remember Braylon saying "I'm not looking to break the bank" and Santonio saying "I want a lot of money." Then nothing happened. Nothing and Jason LaCanfora's opinions. Nothings. Now, every "news" source is reporting the Jets will sign Holmes and ditch Edwards, because Edwards wants too much money. ...wut?
I've said it before and i'll say it again,Sanchez needs consistency on offense and a revolving door at WR is not going to help.
I wonder what the cost of Steve Smith (Car) would be compared to Holmes... If the Jets could get Smith / Holmes I don't think they miss a beat. Smith is hungry and wants to play for a winner - he would Love Rex!!
Like many have already said, I'm all for keeping Edwards over Cro. Ideally I'd like to keep Edwards over Holmes too, but it seems like the staff feels differently.
We're going to be ok as long we get either Holmes or Edwards back. I'd prefer both but it seems less likely that will happen. I would prefer Braylon but all indications are the Jets prefer Holmes, I think we go w/ Holmes and then sign a Moss or Burress to fill that Edwards role. I hope we can find a way to sign both but b/c we gave up a 2nd for Cro I don't think we are letting him go. I'd go w/ the 2 WRs before Cro but w/ that compensation it's hard to justify letting him go giving up a 2nd rounder for 1 season. I want Holmes backc too, b/c i like Braylon more does not mean I don't want Holmes back. It will be tough to see either in a new uniform in 2011.
I wonder how many threads have been made that turn into a Holmes-Edwards debate. I'm going crazy I can only imagine how crazy they must feel.
I feel for those poor schlubs, imagine having many teams bidding for your services where you will make 10s of millions of dollars. It must be rough.
Is Braylon really going to be that much more expensive than a Moss/Burress? Wouldn't it make more sense for the Jets to keep both rather than keep filling in the #2 receiver position year after year? The FO said time and again that they're building the team around Sanchez, so having both receivers on the team is important for his development, so I still think they'll do everything they can do keep both. It's not impossible.
