Disclaimer - As a Pats fan who has lived under the "tyranny" of Jets fans for the past full year because of the January 2011 loss, I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed the last 2 weeks of the Jets soap opera melt down....not that it nearly makes up for the past year of pain. That being said, as a general football fan, I have a couple of questions about what seems to be a wholesale shift in Rex's staff for next year. I'd be interested in hearing your feelings on this hot topic. 1. Do you guys think that Rex is orchestrating this AC overhaul, or is he just bystander just happy he still has a job and getting another chance to redeem himself? 2. Do you guys think Soprano is being hired to be a "shadow HC" with Rex being in charge of the defense and the "face" and personality of the franchise? 3. IF, and that's a big if, Rex didn't have final authority on the Soprano hiring, is Soprano being brought in to be the "HC in waiting" if Rex can't orchestrate a turnaround? 4. I know of the almost universal delight that Shotty's leaving has brought, what are you guys hoping will happen this off season?
I know others disagree, but Sparano looks like a Tannenbaum hire to me. They both have Bill Parcells connections, and Parcells is already on record talking about the hire.
1. Don't know. 2. Don't know. 3. Yes. 4, The offense will get a full revamp with a fresh set of eyes on it and it will be dramatically simplified in the process. I want Ground and Pound/Play-Action next season with a side order of a rolling pocket and using Sanchez mobility in a way that only happened in the 2 minute drills the last three seasons.
first we are hoping for a major injury to Tom Brady either this Saturday, or if by some miracle the Pats win a postseason game, their first in decades without cheating, the following week against either the Texans or the Ravens. then, after our joyous celebration, we can start focusing on next season with the Cheaters safely out of the playoffs as usual
probably a little bit of both. i'm sure he has some level of say so as far as who he wants on his staff. i imagine on some level, yes. i heard that rex likes to dictate full responsibility to the oc for the offense. i doubt it, but if the front office grows to like sporano then it becomes a possibility. that we address some if not all our needs. our biggest priority is to replace wayne hunter, and overhaul the safety unit. also we need some speed on the outside in terms of line backers.
Seriously? Why? In what universe is Sparano considered good head coaching material? He sucked with another team in our division. This would be like hiring Pete Carrol after he got axed by the Jets.
This has Woody written all over it. History has shown he shakes things up after a disappointing season.
1) Definitely not a bystander glad he still has a job. Rex turned this fucking organization around COMPLETELY, AFCCG in 2/3 years aint bad, not to mention barely and i mean barely missing the playoffs with a "terrible" 8-8 record 2) Absolutely 100% without a doubt not 3) Absolutely 100% without a doubt not 4) Fix the offensive line and this is easily a 10-11 win team next year, get a legit #2 wr and the Jets without a fucking doubt will be in everyones top 2 afc teams to make the superbowl come January. Anyone who thinks Rex's job is on the hotseat is fuckin moron and should go get an Eli Manning jersey when they go on sale monday morning
The question was: IF Sparano was hired by somebody other than Rex, was it likely that he was HC in waiting so if Rex lost it he could be replaced. The answer to that is most probably yes.
Well, D, now that I will be looking both ways before I cross the street, its safe to say that we have different views on Soprano. My impression of him was that, at least when they played the Pats, they always played hard for him regardless of the situation. That is a big plus IMHO. Just compare it to the the Jets situation, which came apart when the Jets met just marginal adversity. Image what would have happened if they started 0-7. There might have been a full scale revolution. I know Soprano had haters among Dolphin fans, but I thought he did a great job squeezing out that 11-5 season out of Pennington with just marginal talent, and, again, I was impressed how showed great leadership when things were down. Long term I think the Miami job is going to be a good one. They have a better OL than the Jets (IMO), better WRs, better RBs, and a QB who is just as good or better. I think their DBs and DL are as good as the Jets, and only their LBs not matching up. Though your record is better than their's, I think the Jets and Dolphins are pretty much in a similar position, talent wise as the Jets....though a lot can change over the next 6 months However it came about, I think Soprano was a good hire, but it opens up a lot of possible subplots to the soap opera that's become the Jets. Not that that's a bad thing for fans over a long off season OTOH, whenever the Pats season ends, it goes dark in Foxboro until mid April and the draft watch begins. You guys will have much more fun than we will.
1) This over haul has Rex's prints all over it. Bringing in a OC that has a background in a power running offense is exactly the type of idenity he wants 2) No. Callahan was also an ex head coach as well, but I didn't see that as a threat to Rex's over all authority and don't see Tony as one now. 3) This goes with #2 really. In short, no. The long answer is Tanny is an old Parcells worker and if Rex didn't ask for this, there is a good chance Tanny is leaning on those close to Bill if not talking directly to Parcells himself. 4) Resign Pouha and some others, Install a power running / play action based offense. Add Speed to the front seven. Skilled youth to the Oline. A second TE that is not a walking flag waiting to happen. Perhaps a FA Saftey. Profit?
1. I wouldn't know 2. It is SPARANO, not Soprano. That aside, I wouldn't know 3. Again, I wouldn't know 4. No more 5 wide shotgun with the ball at 1 yard line on 3rd and goal. Or 5 WRs running 4 yard hooks on 3rd and 6. Or WRs running into each other. In short, NO MORE OF THESE WR STUPIDITY THAT SCHOTTENHEIMER HAS INVENTED. Just plain smashmouth football with attitude, and mean streak - that's all I ask for.
After Tony Soprano's gig dried up on HBO he's LUCKY to be working for Rex Ryan. The mob ain't what it used to be you know. You can't just pick up the phone anymore and a voilah! you're a construction site forman. Sheesh.
I hope we invest in the future and part ways with the malcontents, no talent player's and past their prime dead bodies!!!!
1. I think it's both. It's obvious Rex wanted the ground and pound philosophy from the get go, and I think he wasn't able to get rid of Schotty. I don't think it's a coincidence Sparano is a run-first type of coach. 2. No. 3. After his miserable failure in Miami, and Ryan having been to two AFC championships, why would they gamble on Sparano and give Rex the axe? 4. Pretty obvious, just a more efficient offense that plans around our offenses strengths. Also the obvious rebuilding of our weak areas, o-line, etc.
Wow, those rose colored glasses really become you. The Jets need a lot more than just the offensive line to be fixed, and more than that and a wide receiver to be Super Bowl contenders. And there must be a LOT of fucking morons on here cuz his job most certainly is in jeopardy, if only because of the way the team has come apart, nevermind all the other crap.
He's made it to 2 AFC championships and BARELY missed the playoffs, and you think he's about to get fired? I really doubt that.
He's not about to get fired, never said he was. But he's not going to survive next year unless he pulls the team together. No way the team continues as its going and he stays.
