put me down for Gholston. I think he could be a beast much like Merriman or Ware

What if we send our fourth round pick and our #6 pick to Miami for their number 1 pick and say their 6th round pick? Then we could take Long number one overall. This would make even more sense assuming the Jets are able to sign Pace.

Defense would be sick on paper.

Sounds great...but it won't be feasible after Woody finishes blowing his financial load in FA.

It's funny...with all the players that the Jets have been targeting (Faneca, Pace, Jenkins..etc etc)....I'm starting to wonder if they're gonna sneak in the back door and draft McFadden and his 4 kids.

Do you know how much money the number one selection gets?

Yea were gonna save like 12 million if we get rid of Robertson and we probably saved some decent money trading Vilma. I understand money could be a major obstacle but its clear Tannenbaum is intent on adding some big time talent and allowing the Jets to compete with the Pats this season. Theres no bigger a talent than Chris Long and her perfectly fills a major need area for the defense.

Between McFadden and Gholston, I would have to say Gholston.
We're slowing receiving the right tools in out 3-4, with a new NT coming in and having someone to play OLB like Gholston would be a major upgrade to our 3-4.

Everyones saying that Gholston cant play end. Is this even accurate? Didnt Jake Long allow only one sack all year, and wasnt it Gholston who got that sack lining up at defensive end?

There is no way the Jets are drafting McFadden.

First, the Jets have two very good RBs right now and are building a line that might be able to block for them.

Second, the Jets would be stupid to tie up so much money in the RB position after giving Jones a contract last year.

Third, it is a crap shoot whether McFadden would be that much of an upgrade over Jones and Washington to use up such a high pick

Fourth, the Jets still need a pass rush and linebackers

Fifth, McFadden is not a character guy and does not fit into the "Mangini" type of player.

Sixth, NFL teams are realizing it is not worth it to pay big money for RBs and many are going to RB by committee.

If Gholston is there, he is the obvious choice for the Jets. If Gholston is gone, I can see the Jets taking Harvey or one of Otah/Williams/Clady before throwing a pick away on McFadden.

In fact, if McFadden slides past Atlanta and Oakland, I see him dropping to the middle or the end of the first round.

I like Gholston too....but it's tough to guage how the draft will turn out till we see what else the Jets do in FA. What if they sign Pace tomorrow? Does that free up taking Gholston with the #6 pick?

Hell...I would take Gholston just to make sure Belicheat and his cronies don't get their hands on him.

all good points.....but i remember when the Saints picked Bush...even though they just signed McAllister to a long term deal that same year. Nobody predicted that the Saints would pick Bush, but they did....because they took the "take the best player available" approach.

My point is....the Jets are being aggressive in Free Agency...and it looks like they're on the right track for filling their needs....come draft time, they could select the best player available...which indeed could be McFadden (although, I prefer Mendehall, that guy is gonna be a beast)......here's hoping they trade out of that pick, and get more picks.....lots of talent available this year in the 2nd / 3rd rounds.

I say get Gholston over Mcfadden. But I am also pondering trading down our 6th pick for more picks because I like Rashard Mendenhall more than Mcfadden. Plus can you see the combo we would have with Thomas Jones and Mendenhall (but Jones and Mcfadden would be nice). But this draft is deep with RBs and OL so this this draft would work out for us.

If McFadden is gone I would LOVE to trade our pick for a pick in the 12-18 range, a 2nd rounder, a 4th rounder, and a 2nd next year.

Than take Mendenhall/Stewart in the 1st, Groves with 2a, and the best OL available with 2b.

Gholston!! Team him with David Harris and if we can some how sign Calvin Pace, we become so much better! And now we have a real NT along with a good secondary that can let our LBs roam. Wow this team could actually be some what good next season.

skip McFadden. the guy is a holdout waiting to happen every training camp as he has another two children per season that he'll have to pay support for.

    new draft stratergy?

do you guys think, with what we've signed so far, in FA, our target with #6 has changed at all?
let's say we sign PACE, do you still think we go for GHOLSTON, or do we really think DMACC? just want your thoughts?

I'm hearing a lot of bad press on Dmac - fumbling and 4 kids from 4 women and he's 20. There will be a lot more distraction in NYC than in Arkansas too.

However, you can't deny he is absolutely electric. We have decent backs, but he would added a dimension of home-run ability on each play.

Gholston is still my guy though. McFadden is appealing, but stick to the fundamentals, we need a 3-4 rusher that CONSISTENTLY gets to the QB (not like Thomas).

I think they may go for an offensive impact player now that they are spending some money and picks on both lines. We'll see.

Put this kid in NYC there could be issues..He obviously doesn't show good judgement..Now we are putting 25 mill in his pocket..well..We can all see the problems it could bring. Great player but a possible off the field nightmare.

Its the risk - reward thing here.
