An interesting article from the daily news says Gil Brandt never has seen some of Brians formations in his life. It also mentions that this guy is constantly changing up the backfield and mismatching routes to make his own. Do you think we wound up getting the next Martz or Weis. Only time will tell if he will get that good but for a rookie coordinator he certaintly is starting to "brand" his own system.
I like his creativity. Some we've definitely NOT seen the past few years, but what's he doing at the beginning of the game?
I think he's getting quickly overrated because we have lacked so much creativity under the Herm Edwards era. I think he's done a great job considering we lack a starting RB, a proper OL, etc. However, he's used Pennington properly, dink and dunk timing based offense and has taken advantage of Chad's level of intelligence. Shott gets a pass from me as well, but he isn't the second coming of Mike Martz or anything. Well, not yet, anyway...
I think he's done a good job considering the can't run the ball and that they don't want Pennington sitting back in the pocket for 3 or 4 seconds. He has adjusted well to the personnel and I'd like to see him with a good offensive line and running game.
If he would just throw downfield a few more times a game I would have a problem. I do not think he goes downfield enough.
You mean you wouldn't have a problem going downfield more...I dont know about you guys but him compared to the OC's of the last five years. I'm loving it, not afraid to take risks.
Except on 3rd on 2 when the Jets need only a first down to ice the game. Then the Jets throw 30 yard passes to the worst receiver on the team.
Schott will learn from his mistakes and IMO in 3 years he will be a very solid coordinator. With a creative mind like his i am very excited to see this offense in 2-3 years when we have more talent. Especially if we get Turner from San Diego he can step in imediately and know the system.
And you all thought he'd be another Marty. You must all be exactly like your fathers, I know I'm nothing like mine.
I'm watching the Jet's offense this year and having fun for the first time since about 2002. The Jet's schemes are complex and offbeat and they seem to catch the other defense napping a fair amount. I could see this offense being quite a powerhouse next year after the young linemen have gotten a year in the system. As to Schottenheimer, I really think we should enjoy him while we can. If he's as good an offensive coordinator as he appears to be he will likely get a head coaching job somewhere a few years down the road when he hits 35. My best guess right now would be San Diego when Marty retires.
I understand what your saying, but I've never understood that line. Just read the goddamn packaging! it tells you what each one is!
