The game-time coaching has been crummy more than a few times this season. But except for a few questionable offensive play calls, the Jets coaching staff had a really good game against the Colts.

The first half sucked for the offense, but they came out to start the 3rd with a nice long drive to even the score at 7. Looked like Rex lit 'em up at the intermission. Holding Peyton Manning to 1 TD is commendable. They cut back on the ineffective blitz packages, and it worked even without much pressure up front.

We had all 3 time outs when we needed 'em too.

I wish they showed on TV how Rex looked/what he said when he was going into the locker room at half. He was probably pissed as hell.

Rex did show that he isn't dangerously stubborn, which is a good thing. He admitted that Manning kills him when he blitzes, so he went to a lot less of it. I think we will see the same thing in NE next week. A little more blitzing, but not as much as we usually see.

    Rex did an amazing job.

    - Defensively kept Manning/Colts offense under control for the whole game. He showed he can build a succesful defensive gameplan without heavy blitzing (and once again lack of pass rush).

    - Sanchez was off in 1st half & big interception to take away 3 points before halftime. Jets didn't come out of Halftime deflated or negative.

    - Sanchez is off in 1st half, so total change in offensive philosophy. Just ground & pound. Kept following what was working. Colts stack the box & still running the ball. Rex/Schotty wasn't getting off the run based on how many Colts put in the box. Colts needed to actually stop the run.

    - Excellent usage of timeouts. Colts final drive (with Vinaterri FG), smart call to use a TO and save some time on the clock for their own drive. Afterwards, Jets have two timeouts left for their final drive. Look @ Colts coach, he doesn't even call plays & still panics when calling timeouts. Manning is already calling plays but apparently he also needs to call the timeouts for that team.

    - After Santonio Holmes brain fart (with opening punt) & Brad Smith injury, Cromartie is chosen. For the Jets last drive, Cromartie was back there to return kickoff & we see what a good move that was.

    - Rex got in Cro's face on Manning's long td (or it looked that way on tv). However, Rex seemed to motivate Cro because he still produced throughout the game. Sometimes players just punk out when getting called out or a coach steps up to them. Rex had the right way to communicate without shutting down or causing any negative drama w/ his player.

    - With the playoffs on line, Rex listens to what Braylon Edwards suggestions for one more pass before they try FG (on Jets final drive). Rex & Schotty then leave it up to Sanchez. I love this part most. There's coaches who basically have their players STFU when it comes to big gametime decisions. Rex didn't just listen to his players, he trusted Sanchez to make a decision.

    - More stuff but I'm tired of typing. This post is already too long ...

Anytime, the media starts dissing Rex for his comments or behavior or even worst Jets fans gets pissed @ Rex, I just roll my eyes. There's teams all over this league that wish they had a coach like Rex & even if they hate his personality would gladly accept him for his defensive mind & ability to rally players.

one game is hardly a case to claim improvement. game management has been the thorn in rex's short coaching stint to this point. yesterdays game is not the end all of this problem.

hopefully it doesn't rear it's ugly head during these playoffs.

But, the decision att he end to run the ball for two yards to set up a 50 yard field goal, along with the plan to do it again (aborted bythe stupid Indy TO, resulting in a change of plays) to do it again reminded me of Herm-Brien.

Well said. He's still a 2nd year HC. This isn't the 2nd or 3rd team he's been a head coach for. Its his first. Don't forget Belli was a losing coach in Cleveland before he became a diety in NE.

Rex has a long way to go but you can't expect a 2nd year head coach to not have any game management issues. Christ - Herm brought in Dick Curl just to watch the fucking clock and that STILL didn't fix the problems.

Give Rex some time, he will get better. But if fans keep screaming that he sucks, then he will be out run of NY before he gets the opportunity to improve.

Remember, Cowher, 7 years as HC before an SB....

Only getting better cause of a win...

If he did lose, no chance in hell this thread would appear.

That's retarded. He's 12-5 and 3-1 in the postseason and we just beat the Colts. Who cares if somebody wants to yet that he sucks? He is not getting run out of NY - Most fans and certainly the players and the owner - know that Rex is a great young coach.
