With all these Rumors and Speculation Is it really worth trading Vilma?
If he doesn't fit in the 3-4 system do we trade away a future Hall of Famer?
Vilma is my favorite Jet. I did not think he had a bad year last year. The guy got 116 tackles in a 3-4 defense. For 3-4 defense big linebackers are expected but Vilma is an exception. Does any one think Vilma should be traded? If Yes for who

Sure it's worth it. It's worth trading anybody if you get something better back. Tannenbaum said the only player on the Jets not available is our punter.
What I would think would be worth it is to package him with our #25 and move up to the top 12. Doubt it can be done but I think it would be easily worth it.

I am not for trading Vilma, I think another year in the 3-4 and some help for Drob at NT he could be great again....But if the offer is to good to turn down Tanny might have to pull the trigger

I don't think any player should be held sacred, no matter how much I like them. I happen to think that Jon Vilma is an excellent player, and he's one of my favorites also. But if trading him gets us closer to a championship than keeping him here, then I am all for it.

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Seriously I want no part in trading Vilma unless its for a top 5 pick. Unreasonable? Maybe. But unless its something unreasonable that totally makes sense like that others can take their offers and shove em.

Vilma is a really good player, but a future HOF'er? I don't think anyone would say that at this point in his career. Possible, but not probable...

Heck, if I could trade him to Washington for the #6 pick and grab Patrick Willis with the pic we'd trade an older smaller LB for a younger larger LB...or we can take our CB and then draft Posulzny?

Teams that I think could still have a hard-on for Vilma:

    1. Denver. No MLB at the moment. Vilma is a huge asset in a 4-3 and he's light which is what you want at Mile High Stadium.

    2. Tampa Bay. Barrett Ruud is a very good prospect but I think Vilma would be welcomed in Tampa Bay's Cover-2. If the Bucs trade down from the 4 I would not be surprised to see the first round pick they get involved in a Vilma deal.

Those are the potential landing spots if the Jets want to deal Vilma. Washington is out now after signing London Fletcher to a big deal.

If he doesn't fit the 3-4, he ain't gonna get in the HOF playing for the Jets. Unless of course we scrap to 3-4 but that won't happen with Mangini here.
    Mangini > Vilma

I've got it! Trade Vilma and Pennington to Denver for Cutler and their first rounder. It's gonna happen.

    Kidding.

That's sound thinking. I'm on board.

Now, let's get back to talking about important things, like how many draft picks we have to give up - and I don't think there's any price I wouldn't pay - to get back Bolly, that cheese-hauling, clipboard-toting, championship-making, near-Canadian, mama's boy.

i am not joined at the hip to any player. there are a lot of LBs out there better than Vilma. i reallly hate this juvenile hero worship that i read on the board. it is [rimarily for vilma and chad. not exactly two supermen. the idea is to win a championship if detroit is dumb enough to trade for him (and they are probably the only ones dumb enough to give a top 10 pick for a guy who was not drafted top 10 and had a so-so year last year, then I am for it. I might not trade him to move up to 19 or something like that. but until i see the deal i do not say no.

Even Detroit isn't that dumb. No one is suggesting that we could ever get that #2 pick. Even if we did what would we use it on? Nothing. There is no one on the board at #2 that we need or could afford. We would try to trade down and probably get screwed in the process.

I love JVilma , and I think another year in the 3-4 with some help on the DL he can get back to being a force. But we cannot say wether it is worth tradng him or not until we know what we are getting in return.....If the deal is right we have to pull the trigger and I think Tanginni would

Everybody likes Vilma. The problem is he is undersized to play in the 3-4. He will never be great in the 3-4 unless he bulks up significantly. No matter how long he plays in it.

A big NT would certainly help all of them.
