Rotoworld: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2375 ets NT Kris Jenkins (ACL surgery) has decided to play again in 2011. Jenkins deliberated after undergoing his fourth major surgery last week, but he's decided that he wants to "leave his mark on the game." The 31-year-old is scheduled to earn $3.75 million next season, a figure the Jets will be reluctant to pay.
Absolute madness. Jenx isn't thinking rationally right now. If he really wants to trade pain everyday for the rest of his life for a single year of football, someone, namely REX, should talk him out of it. Maybe he should talk to some of the guys that came before who didn't quit in time. He could start with Ray Lucas who also has permanent damage.
If he wants to do it while taking a massive paycut more power to him. I don't see how he could make it through a season but he loves football and I love to watch him play.
Next season he'll only make it through 3 plays. I love the guy, but you just have to realize when your body is telling you to stop. 3 ACLs is speaking that language.
As I said in an earlier thread, the man just ain't going out like that! My humble opinion -- and I've had multiple breaks, multiple surgeries, and a torn ACL -- is that #77 has just been freakishly unlucky. I'm not normally one for predictions, but I think he'll come back hugely motivated and will be very productive in a marginally (not severely) limited role next year. Hey, it's not like he's accumulating wear and tear.
I tend to agree with this. The two tears he has had as part of the Jets were just unlucky. I wouldn't say his body is telling him he is done.
It sounds strange saying this but I really wish he would retire. There comes a point as a fan where I would rather the guy be a color commentator rather than be a cripple. I am saying as a person that loved the way Kris plays and how much of a force he was.
I think if he uses that motivation to his advantage, he can still have one or two more solid years. I'm optimistic about that feeling, obviously, but I really like, Big Jenks. I hope the best for him, regardless of what happens with him in the offseason.
Hey if the doctors think its safe for him to go out and play then let him do it. What he should focus on is keeping his weight in check. I know its hard but maybe stay on that cookie diet the entire time. I love the guy and wish him the best
no i like the guy, but cut his ass b4 we have to pay him his 3.5million or whatever. unless he wants to play for 900k.
He could wear heavy-duty custom made knee braces. Start the season on IR and them help the Jets finish out the season.
Was thinking the same. Still wondering why he didn't have a brace on to begin with. I would certainly welcome him back, just not at $3.5.
I think that's key. Modern ligament surgery can produce some impressive results, but not so impressive that it's going to handle 360lbs+ playing in a position where at times he is on the receiving end of 600 lbs of opposing force. Getting down to closer to 300 would probably be a good idea if he wants to keep on playing.
I love watching the big guy play as much as the next man, but I think it is time for a change. The Jets cannot count on him going into next year as a starting NT especially with his injury history. I will never tell him to retire, but he cannot come back here at that price tag. And, even if he does accept a pay cut, he will also have to accept a more limited role. He could be a situational player while the Jets try to break in somebody new at the NT position.
