I get two different impressions from watching and listening to Tannenbaum these days.

    1. He's kind of the figurehead at this point in an organization where nobody jumps out at you as an authoritative football guy.

Too many of the moves the Jets are making now look just like the moves they made from 2001 to 2004. Lots of trade-ups. Over-reliance on vet free agents on the downside. Too many high picks spent on the defensive side of the ball, leaving the offense always just a bit short. The Jets #1 in 2002, 2003 and 2004 were all on the defensive side.

That leads me to believe that while Tannenbaum is out front Terry Bradway exerts almost as much influence on the end result as he did in his failed half decade of work.

    2. He's really in denial about the state of the Jets talent.

The Jets have blown too many draft picks, traded up too many times and signed or traded for and subsequently lost too many vets to be a highly competitive roster at this point.

Almost all of their play value is concentrated on defense at this point and the offense is a continual project and one that will fall apart in a heart beat when they give up on Sanchez. At that point there isn't going to be much left to build around on that side. The Cleveland Browns have had a very good offensive line, lacking playmakers for the last several years. The Jets are going to be the Browns on offense except their line won't be as good.

It's just really sad. I have no clue where it leads but I am really hoping the Vikes or somebody else winds up in LA soon because I don't think Woody is going to stick out the downturn that is coming up on us fast.

    Great post. I agree.

We have an owner who knows dick about football and seems to be the one making most of the football decisions around here when it comes to player personnel.

Woody should sit in the luxury box where he belongs and allow the football minded people to run and build this team.

Seriously, what do you guys expect the man to say??? Tanny is no different than any other GM when interviewed. It's all vanilla party line stuff. Unreal.
