Jets fans should send Woody message by staying home By BRIAN COSTELLO Posted: 1:34 AM, November 28, 2012 Woody Johnson owes Jets fans an explanation. How did this happen? How did a team a game away from going to the Super Bowl two years ago devolve into a punch line? And how is the Jets owner going to fix it? Johnson rushed out of MetLife Stadium on Thanksgiving night without speaking to reporters after his team’s 49-19 humiliating loss to the Patriots. It is unlikely Johnson will say anything publicly again until the end of the season. Now, it’s time for the fans to get a message across to Johnson. Skip Sunday’s game with the Cardinals. I know every Jets season-ticket holder has spent a lot of money to go to these games and there are only eight a year. But it’s time Johnson got a message from you. So leave the grill in the garage this weekend, take the kids to the park, do some Christmas shopping. NO LIFE AT METLIFE: Jets fans should stay home Sunday against the Cardinals, the Post’s Brian Costello writes, to send a message to owner Woody Johnson. Just don’t set foot in MetLife Stadium. And don’t sell your tickets, either. Make sure there are so many empty gray seats in the stadium that Johnson can’t even choke down a shrimp cocktail in his luxury suite. Instead of hitting Stubhub to unload your tickets, mail them to Johnson. Let the unused tickets pile up on his desk so he gets a signal from you that dollar store football at department store prices won’t be tolerated. Make out the envelope to: Woody Johnson c/o New York jets Atlantic Health Training Center One Jets Drive Florham Park, NJ 07932 What Johnson has done to the season-ticket holders this year is awful. The Jets have the highest average, non-premium ticket price in the league at $117.94, according to Team Marketing Report’s Fan Cost Index. That is on top of personal seat licenses for all of those except the upper deck. What have you gotten for that price? A preseason with no touchdowns. Regular-season losses by 34, 30 and 21 points. Parking aggravation. Cursing in the stands. And the biggest distraction in the league at backup quarterback. Not to mention Johnson begging the NFL to give the Jets a home game on Thanksgiving, ruining the holiday for his fans. No wonder the Jets are on every website and radio station trying to hawk tickets that no one will buy. Jets fans deserve a refund this year after watching their 4-7 season stumble, bumble and butt-fumble their way out ofplayoff contention. If the Jets were a steak, you would send it back. If they were a purchase at a store, you would be searching for the receipt. Instead of looking like competition for the Patriots on Thursday, the Jets played the Washington Generals to the Pats’ Globetrotters. My email is filled with stories of longtime Jets fans who have given up their tickets after years of rooting for them at Shea Stadium and across the parking lot at Giants Stadium. Many surrendered because of PSLs. Others because watching at home on a big-screen TV became that much more enjoyable than heading to the East Rutherford Eyesore that Woody and John Mara built. I pick one game a year to attend. I paid for the tickets a long time ago and picked good ones on the 3rd level sideline. I'm sorry, but some writer isn't going to tell me that I shouldn't go to this game. This clown probably goes to all the games in the media booth and has no idea of the financial considerations involved with going to live sports events these days.
Unless the jets are reimbursing me for the final two games, I will reluctantly show up ready with my paper bag, because I will most likely need it.
Dumping on stubhub to the other teams fans would get the same message across woody is lucky we are playing the cards and chargers not the steelers and cowboys
+ 1. I'm not going to lose money or eat money to stay home and miss out on a fun tailgate with friends, even if our team sucks. Screw that. We only get eight of these (10 if you go to Preseason, but half the people don't) a year.
I hate Jet fans, I hate the whiny media. If you don't like it don't go to games, don't watch on TV. Get over it, live your lives. Now woody owes us an explanation b/c the Jets had a bad year? are you serious? I think why we suck is this fanbase deserves a team that sucks, we have ben through the grestest stretch in jets history, we have a HC we know we can win w/ and people want change for the sake of change. You guys deserve Rich Kotite. I wish I could like another team so I wouldn't have to be associated w/ such whiners.
I think your idea is terrific however I think even a step further would be picketing WJ home & the NYJ offices. I am sure the media will pick up that
Next year will be the same crapola maybe even worse so are you going to piss your money away again next season to buy tix?
The greatest stretch in Jets history is 20-12 with two AFC Championship Game loses? I don't think so.
Next year will be the same crapola maybe even worse so are you going to piss your money away again next season to buy tix?
No, no, no the greatest stretch in NYJ history is the 68 season & then winning the PO game vs Oak & then beating the Colts in SB3. That was a CHAMPIONSHIP season so nothing to date can top it
Maybe do what some Cowboy fans did. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/27/jerry-jones-petition-dallas-cowboys_n_2198622.html
since Woody bought the team: 2000-2011(12 seasons): 6 playoff seasons 1 div title 6 playoff wins 4 WC wins 2 div rd wins 8 winning seasons 3 losing seasons longest stretch w/o postseason app? 2 years('07 & '08) longest stretch w/o playoff win? 4 years('05-'08) most consecutive losing seasons? ONE most consecutive non winning seasons? ONE most consecutive winning seasons? 3('00-'02, '08-'10) NY Jets 1960-1999(40 seasons): 8 playoff seasons(in 28 more seasons played made just 2 more playoff apps) 3 div titles(in 28 more seasons won just 2 more div titles) 6 playoff wins(in 28 more seasons won same # of playoff games) 2 WC wins(invluding '82 1st rd) 2 div rd wins(including '82 2nd rd) 9 winning seasons(in 28 more seasons just 1 more winning season) 20 losing seasons longest stretch w/o postseason app? 11 seasons('70-'80) longest stretch w/o playoff win? 13 seasons('69-'81) most consecutive losing seasons? 4('62-'65) most consecutive non winning seasons? 11('70-'80) most consecutive winning seasons? 3('67-'69) yeah we've had our best stretch in history. The best 2 year stretch was '68-'69 b/c we won the SB but that team didn't have a Pats team to deal w/ and the current team didn't have the benefit of playing 1 game to get to the SB at home against a team that beat them and had a better record.
What parking issues? What cursing? Hey Brian, tell your bosses at the Post to let you stay home and have the AP cover the Jets. Put your $ where your mouth is. The last thing I am going to do is listen to the local media.... morons. Now I am going.
This is awesome!!!! The more of you fair weather fans who sit home, the more cheap tics I can get for my family!!!!
I heard about this BS article on Boomer and Carton this morning, What a joke this article is,like Woody is gonna give a shit if he has a stack of tickets on his desk that you already paid for, You guys are crazy if you think a Billionare is gonna give a shit about 100 empty seats
Wear a paper bag over your head with "15 months of lousy football" written on it. I wouldn't worry too much about the message at this point. If the problems get fixed this off-season or are clearly headed that way then Woody is getting the message naturally, just from looking at the mess every day. If the problems don't get fixed then what you are suggesting will also happen naturally next season and moving forward. You cannot put a crappy product on the field and charge very high ticket prices, let alone PSL's. Not For Long at least.
btw, for those that don't know me... I go to every game and stay to every end.... No Matter what...period.
I agree, Costello wants to reimburse you for your tickets it would be a different story. The Tickets are already paid for, Woody got his money for 2012. Not going hurts parking revenue and food revenues. The way to send Woody a clear message is not to renew Season Tickets.
