http://myespn.go.com/profile/hashmarks Jets free-agent wideout alert/June 15, 2007 9:52 AM Intrepid intern William Bendetson checks in with some Jets minicamp observations: One of the more impressive players at minicamp Thursday for the New York Jets was rookie wide receiver and undrafted free agent Jesse Pellot-Rosa. Pellot-Rosa, a rookie from Virginia Commonwealth, caught almost all of the long balls thrown by Jets quarterbacks Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens and Marques Tuiasosopo. At 6-4 and 195 pounds, Pellot-Rosa has the size and speed to give him a shot at making the team. There seems to be a rivalry developing for backup quarterback between Tuiasosopo and Clemens, with each of them taking roughly the same number of snaps in practice Thursday. Pellot-Rosa has got to be one of the world's longest long shots. If he makes the practice squad THEN I'll start paying atention.
lol wallace wright over our very own draft pick that DT from nebraska. made the team last year.. pellet rosa if he keeps playing well will have shot.
This is the part that caught my attention. Good to see a heated battle going on for the 2nd string position. Clemens better win this battle or we'll be looking for another QB next season.
And Antonio Gates (who was in the same situation as Pellot-Rosa, whose sport in college was basketball and not football). Of course, I'm not putting any stock in him being able to make it onto the team, but if he does then good for him and hopefully he can be a good deep threat for us.
What caught my attention was his height. That is a + right there. Who knows maybe we found our own Randy Moss once we get a QB whose ball does not flutter while it travels 45/50 yds
I'm sure Belli will be losing sleep at night worrying about how he's going to defend Jesse Pellot-Rosa. He's probably already starting to bald at Micky Mantle rate.
Whoever knows the offense best and translates that to the field should get the #2 spot. I don't care who it is.
Great to hear he's doing well. my fingers are still crossed...but I don't think he's as big of a longshot as people think.
I do, since we already have a ton of WRs on the roster 1) Coles 2) Cotch 3) McCarreins 4) Brad Smith 5) Tim Dwight 6) Stuckey 7) Wright There are probably more, and two or three of these guys will undoubtedly be cut. Then whatever recievers we keep on the roster, one will probably not be activated very often
folks, IMO - there should NOT be a question that Clemens is the #2 this year - though he may not know that just yet. If the jets go into the final 1/2 of this season and Clemens has not yet been named the primary backup we all have to start scratching our heads and wonder. jil
i hope nothing but the best for clemens , he is a jet, but going into tc fighting for a spot vs. already having your roster spot are 2 different things. i have yet to hear the cs verbally say clemens is our #2 man at qb. for kicks what would you say if mangini announces that tui is our #2 qb, what would that say about clemens?
We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but if it does get to that point then we should probably seriously consider a QB in the earlier rounds next draft.
