in our game with eli we held him to 9 out of 27------jets had 22 1st downs----giants had 11-----biggest play of game was manning throwing the 5 yard pass to cruz who then dodged around two of our guys and ran 90 yards for a td jets certainly played them much better then the packers-----perhaps our defense is not that bad even with no d line pass rush-----we finished 5th in fewest yards given up and 5th in fewest passing yards given up-------jets still need some help on defense but biggest need to to get sanchez going----his numbers aren't so bad with 26 tds and 18 int need better pass blocking----he took so many hits and receivers holmes and plax only averaged 3 catches per game-----need plenty of help in that department----dont have enuf for ground and pound------in 1st game against cowboys sanchez threw for 335 yards---his highest ---and i thought the jets had taken off his traing wheels and the team was set up for high octane offense------there's a lot of fixing to do but the passer is good---need better wr and blockers to get back to contention
If the offense doesn't score points, the defense will eventually fold. That being said, the D let up way too many big plays this season.
Our D was not consistent, one game they played great while the next they were awful. We certainly have pieces to rebuild a to a top 5 D quickly, let's hope they can do it.
Well, statistically, they are a top 5 D. They have most of the pieces to be a dominating defense, it's a matter of if they can get those last few pieces.
The defense had a bad year and was still pretty damn good. They just need some speed at linebacker and talent at safety. You add that, and this is arguably the top defense in the NFL next year. The problem on this team is offense, not defense.
I hope Maybin continues to develop into an every-down player. Having a dual pass rushing threat with Maybin and a stud rookie OLB would work wonders for the defense.
I think we are closer than most people do. the reality is even though we made two straight AFC Championships we were just a 10 win team. that isn't elite. but we were a few games here and there over those two season from easily being a 12 or 13 game winner. getting over that hump that takes a team from a good team to a great team sometimes doesn't just happen with year after year improvement. sometimes teams take a step backwards before making that giant leap forward. that's where I think the Jets are.
The Packers were emotionally flat due to the unexpected and tragic death of the son of their OC. If that event doesn't happen, the Packers destroy the Giants.
Having an offense to eat up some clock and keep opposing offenses off the field should put them back to top 5 in this category.
That's the play that killed us. I don't think the Giants are any better than we are unless you don't tackle them.
lol and how many points were scored because of a Sanchez pick 6 or someone fumbling.. See: Raiders game Ravens game Broncos game
Agreed. With some small tweaking, our defense is championship caliber. The problems are on the other side of the ball. 13+ win teams dominate opponents in all phases.
To play devil's advocate we were also a few bounces from missing the playoffs the two years we made them. I do think everything that could go wrong did go wrong this season and we finished 8-8. I think we take a major step forward next year, and hopefully this means fighting for the division until the last couple weeks and not fading away.
Not saying this as a bitter fan or anything but let's be honest. We lost that game to the Giants, They didn't win it. There Offense couldn't do shit until we started making bonehead mistakes.
Our problem with defense was the big play. We'd get them to third and long then some big play happens. All it takes is a few plays here and there. But yea impressive what the Jets were able to do to some teams. Wish we had a guy that could get to the QB
We could have ended their season. Now they will probably win it all. Oh well, at least we will be ale to pretend to be Giants' fans on other message boards just to fuck with Philly & Boston fans : )
I highly doubt that. The Packers problem is they had the worst defense in the NFL, even though they had one of the best offenses. It just didn't match up well against the Giants. They almost beat them the first time, as well but the Giants d has been getting healthier and healthier. I saw it coming and made almost 3 to 1 on my money betting the Giants straight up last night.
