Has anyone here been to a home playoff game for the Jets? What was that like? I was at Jets / Steelers in Pittsburgh for the AFCCG and that place was electric. Never been in an atmosphere like that before. What do you think a Jets home playoff game would be like? We haven’t had one at MetLife yet, gotta believe it would be rocking in there.
This is what Chat GPT says. At that time I still lived in Turkey and didn't know anything about American Football and never heard of New York Jets. I am sure we have somebody who have been to that game The last time New York Jets hosted a home playoff game was on January 4, 2003, when they beat Indianapolis Colts 41–0 in the Wild Card round.
To answer your second question. A home play off game would bring a lot of fans out of their closet. Currently we see a lot of opposing fans at the stands for regular season games. For a playoff game, I would expect at least 80% Jets fans and Metlife would be rocking. Closest we got to that type of atmosphere was Aaron Rodgers first game with us. I am sure we will beat that atmosphere by a lot.
It's the picture in my avatar of the shirt I bought there. It was awesome, would love to do it again someday.
LOL... I've seen Jets-Chiefs 1969; Jets -Bills 1981; Jets- Pats 1985; Jets Chiefs 1986; Jets-Jags 1998 (Jan 99 actually) and Jets vs Colts 2002 (the most electric atmosphere!) Only missed Jets-Raiders '68 (the greatest game they ever played) Jets-Chiefs '69 was a freezing cold and windy Saturday. Jets coudn't get anything going and loss was very disapppointing, post Super Bowl Jets-Bills '81 deary, rainy day...electric to start , Bills score on a fumbled opening kick-off, (sound familiar?) Bills got up 24-7, Shea was dead, but place became a madhouse as Jets fought back, tremendous burst of silence as Todd threw an interception at the goal line to end the game. Jets-Pats '85 Very cold game. Started at 400pm, fans only somewhat into it (late start around Christmas and it was tough to get to the stadium that day,) but two Pats TDs in a short span including a fumbled kick-off (sound familiar) let the air out Jets-Chiefs '86 Fans shell-shocked after a season ending 5 game losing streak...Ryan long run on 4th down wakes us up! I believe an interception return for a TD at the beginning of the 3rd quarter got the place rocking... fans relieved and encuraged but still cautious.., biggest letdown ever the next week at Cleveland Jets-Jags '98 Great Jets victory... Stadium rocking...very loud. A lot of standing and cheering...one particular drive went on forever, featured a Vinny int and a fumble on the return recovered by Jets and the drive kept going...confetti at the end...We're going to beat Denver and go to Super Bowl! (lol) Jets-Colts '02 41-0! More electric than '98... Jets coming off 42-17 crushing of Pack (the crowd exploded at that game after miracle defeat of Pats by Miami) Richie Anderson goes 80 yards with a screen pass early on, running right towards our seats in the end zone! Crowd standing and screaming at Manning throughout game, Manning looking confused,
The 1998 game against the Jags was definitely the most memorable of any game that I have seen in person.
It was a very strange night. The weather was quite mild for January and the atmosphere was one of calm confidence which only increased as the night went on. It never even got to the point where you began to fear the loss of the shutout, it just happened. The post-game tailgate was not even rowdy, just controlled happiness with a look to the following week.
I remember during half-time on the broadcast of that Jets Colts game, the reporter was holding up one of the huge chunks of sod coming up from those grass trays on the field. The Colts receivers couldn't run any real routes on that field. I think that game was a factor in the Jets switching to field turf the next season but don't have anything to back that up but timing.
No, it was probably upper forties or low fifties. Edited to add... Maybe i just felt warm; here's the facts Date: January 4, 2003 Location: East Rutherford, NJ Venue: Giants Stadium Attendance: 78524 Weather: Overcast Temp: 36 F Humidty: 69% Wind: 8 mph
You can watch the entire Colts - Jets playoff game broadcast on YouTube. Sometimes when I need to remember why I like this stupid team I watch the beginning. it still gets me amped up, the stadium was rocking pregame, Meadow Soprano sang the national anthem and then we murdered the Colts
I thought I was going to pass out when Martin fumbled. The Jets should have won that Denver game in 98. They would have hammered Atlanta. That fumble was really the only terrible blemish in an otherwise, obviously, HoF career. Still SMH when I think about it.
